Vernon Lamar Burt Sr.

Vernon Lamar Burt, Sr., 84, of Tallahassee, FL, devoted husband and father, was called by our Lord to join his wife and the angels in Heaven on September 25th, 2006.

Vernon served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II as Radio Technician, First Class, and was honorably discharged in 1945.

He will be held in our hearts for all eternity. We each cherish our memories of his special life and are thankful for the time we were blessed to have him with us on this earth. Vernon is survived by his grandson, Keith C. Burt of Panama City, FL; grandson, Mark McMillian of Prattville, AL; grandson, Ross McMillian of Prattville, AL; granddaughter, Michele Davis of Crawfordville, FL; granddaughter, Kai Page of Crawfordville, FL; and various loving great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 30th, 2006 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Lawrence Brown – Service Funeral Home in Selma, AL followed by a 2:00 P.M. funeral service in the funeral home. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery.

Jeffrey Alan Crum

Jeffrey Alan Crum, age 26, of Selma died Tuesday, September 26, 2006. A memorial service will be held Friday September 29, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Kenny Hatcher.

Mr. Crum is survived by his parents, George S. Crum and his wife Sherri Jeaneen Roberts Crum, his brother, George S. Crum, Jr. of Yorba Linda, CA and sister, Kathryn Crum Frieders of Yorba Linda, CA, paternal grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Crum of Charlotte, NC, and an uncle, James E. Roberts of Selma.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday before the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to one’s favorite charity.

Earnest Jones

Earnest Jones, age 77, of Selma, AL died on September 22, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2006 at 11:00 am at Ellwood Community Church with Gary L. Crum officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: spouse, Zettie N. Jones; four sons, Clarence (Christine) Jones of McCall, AL, Earnest, Jr. (Wilma) Jones of Birmingham, AL, Michael (Lisa) Jones of Montgomery, AL, and Michael (Barbara) Green of Huntsville, AL; four daughters, Judy (Cedric) Jordan of Selma, AL, Vivian Jones of Selma, AL, Mary (Robert) Allison of Pinson, AL, and Donitha (Calvin) Griffin of Valley Grande, AL; fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, three sons-in-laws, four daughters-in-laws, six brothers-in-laws, and three sisters-in-laws. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Ann Jones.

Jonathan Walter

Goodman

Jonathon Walter Goodman, age 27, of Marion Junction, AL passed away September 26, 2006.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 29, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Cockrell officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 28, 2006, 6-8:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.

He is survived by his parents, Joe Goodman and Sarah (William) Hembree; one sister, Pamela Goodman and her fiance, Christopher Jacobs; paternal grandparents, Walter and Mavis Goodman; maternal grandmother, Inez Witcher; aunts, Fran Mathis, Beth Cantrell, Cissy Burgey and Cathy Goodman; one uncle, Daniel Goodman; long time friend, Heather Blackwell and his best friend, Brandon Mathis.

His best friend, Jeff Crum passed away with Jonathon on Sept. 26, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Thomas Witcher.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Mathis, Christopher Jacobs, Justin Jacobs, Chris Graham, Randy Cockrell and Billy Cockrell.

Jonathon was always happy and fun loving and he loved to make people laugh.

He loved animals, fishing, bowling and golf. He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.

Ellen Bonner Jones

Miss Ellen Bonner Jones, age eighty-six, passed peacefully after a short illness,

Monday, September 18, 2006.

Ellen was the daughter of Frances Lazenby and Clark Jones.

Her mother, father, and sister, Frances Lazenby Jones preceded Ellen in death.

Ellen was an honor graduate from Montevallo College in the field of medicine and retired as a medical technician.

She spent many happy times at the Jones’ family’s beach retreat, one of the first houses built by Eric Allan in Dune Allan Beach.

She lived her adulthood in Selma, Alabama and moved permanently to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida in 2001.

She loved the beach and the beautiful sunsets.

Ellen is survived by cousins, Miss Bunnie Dale, and Mrs. Bonnie Mitchell and her devoted friends Jo and Bob Henderson.

On Sunday October 1, 2006 at 2:00 P.M., per Ellen’s request, she will have a graveside service the Clark Jones family plot of Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Oak Hill, Alabama.

The Rev. Henry Smith will officiate and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home, Selma, Alabama is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Moore

Charles Moore, age 84, of Selma, AL died on September 22, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, September 28, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Miller’s Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Alvin Cleveland officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: one son, John (Mary) Moore of Montgomery, AL; one daughter, Judith Moore of Marietta, GA; one sister, Susie Moore-Wilson of Selma, AL; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, one sister-in-law, five nieces, one nephew and a host of cousins and friends.

Annie Thelma Ross

Annie Thelma Ross, age 86, of Selma, passed away September 26, 2006 at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be Thursday, September 28, 2006, 3:00 p.m. at Pineview Memory Gardens with Rev. Rod Rochester officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Visitation was held Wednesday night.

She is survived by two daughters, Myrtle Lee Ezzelle and Patricia Ann Williams; four sisters, Pauline Bryant, Belma Williamson, Louise Pyron and Dorothye Jackson; ten grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie James Ross; her mother, Annie Lou Willis and a son, Willie Preston.

James Frank Wooten

James Frank Wooten, age 90, died Monday, September 25th at Park Place Nursing Home in Selma, AL. Mr. Wooten was born in Jacksonville, NC on February 29, 1916.

He served in World War II in the North African Theater.

He then spent the majority of his life in Birmingham, AL working in automobile parts sales.

He is survived by his step-daughter, Terry Pritchett, and her husband, Cren, and a sister, Mary Le Guin Lamm, of Wilson, N.C. Mr. Wooten also has three nieces, Mary Eliza Gauss of Wilson, N.C., Margaret Galbreath of Kinston, N.C., and Helen Kline Best of Leland, N.C., and three nephews, Riddick Lamm, Jr. of Asheville, NC, Wooten Lamm of Rocky Mount, N.C., and David E. Jones, of Kitty Hawk, N.C. He was preceded in death by his wife Louise Steele Wooten, his mother, Mary Eliza Jarman Wooten, father, James Frank Wooten Sr. and a sister, Helen Kline Jones of Kinston, N.C.

A memorial service will be held at Oakmont United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL on Saturday, September 30th at 11:00.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Disabled Veterans Association, Oakmont United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
