Help the United Way

Each of us knows someone who has benefitted from a United Way agency.
Whether through the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Cahaba Mental Health, the YMCA or other agencies, there are multiple organizations in Dallas County and Selma that help those in need in our community.
On Friday, the United Way of Dallas County kicked off its annual fund-raising campaign.
Local businesses have already pitched in to help various agencies with projects through a special Day of Caring.
Businesses have also pledged $45,000 in support of this year’s campaign.
But more help is needed, and that’s where you come in.
This year’s campaign goal is $450,000. While businesses such as Alabama Power, Henry Brick and Wal-Mart have already pledged 10 percent of that amount, there’s still a ways to go.
The campaign will run from Sept. 15 through Dec. 31.
All companies and citizens are encouraged to participate.
All donations are tax deductible and pledges can be made through payroll deduction at your place of employment or by calling the United Way office at 874-8383.
The money raised in Dallas County stays in Dallas County, and is distributed to the various United Way agencies.
If you don’t know someone who has been helped by one of these agencies, you no doubt will at some point. Do your part to help.
