Session to aid Selma’s new business owners
Staff Report
The Alabama Department of Revenue (ADOR) will host a free tax workshop for local new business owners on Thursday, Sept 21. at 6 p.m. on the Wallace Community College Selma campus.
“It’s (the workshop) available to anyone that’s considering starting a business or it’s even a good workshop to attend if you’ve recently begun a business,” said Carla A. Snellgrove, an ADOR media representative.
ADOR last held a tax workshop in Selma on April 25. During the hour-long event, ADOR representatives will review a variety of state tax information topics, including employee withholding taxes, state and local sales taxes, property taxes and business licensing requirements.
“(ADOR representatives) will also give an overview of the electronic filing program that the department has available to business tax payers,” Snellgrove said.
“It’s just a really good opportunity for people of the business community to meet the revenue department representatives and they’ll be able to discuss any concerns they have with their taxes or learn how the taxes would apply to them…whether it would affect their particular business operations or not.”
Snellgrove said ADOR will host workshops throughout state. In the Black Belt region, ADOR is hosting a second workshop in Demopolis.
