Beatrice Bennett Mahand

Beatrice Bennett Mahand, age 71, of Sprott, AL died on August 22, 2006 in Selma. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Lily Grove Baptist Church with Leo King officiating. Burial will follow in Lily Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: husband, Junie Mahand; three sons, James Bennett, JC Bennett, and Dan Bennett; four daughters, Anna Bennett, Annie Jones, Mary Bennett, and Shirley Dixon; one sister, Maggie Moore; twenty-three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.

Earnest Lee Gardner

Earnest Lee Gardner, age 44, formerly of Brent, AL, died on August 21, 2006 in Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Mt. Ebell Baptist Church in Brent. The pastor Rev. Gregory Dumas will officiate. Burial will be in Cooper Cemetery in Centreville, AL. Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.

Ethel Bell Smiley

Ethel Bell Smiley, age 88, of Selma, AL died on August 20, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Hope Baptist with Rev. John Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: two sons, Joe (Sarah) Price of Lock Port, NY and Nathaniel (Jackie) Smiley of Cleveland, OH; eight daughters, Viola Farrow, Golvene Smiley, and Ethel (Bennett) Thomas of Selma, AL, Pauline Sheppard, Katie Cole of Brookville, FL, Lizza Davis, Carolyn Spring of Montgomery, AL, and Helen (David) Stewart of Lock Port, NY; eighty-one grandchildren; one hundred, ninety-one great grandchildren, fifty-four great-great grandchildren; three daughters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mrs. Eula Glover

Mrs. Eula Glover, age 82, of Thomaston, Alabama passed away on August 21, 2006 at Detroit Receiving Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. at the Glovers Primitive Baptist Church in Thomaston, Alabama. Rev. James Clark will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements.

Lela Mae Atkins

Lela Mae Atkins, age 59, of Minter, AL died on August 16, 2006 at home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church, Farmersville, AL with Rev. L. C. Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moorer; one son, Percy Atkins; two daughters, Wycleria Atkins Lavender and Tonia Atkins; five brothers, Wilbert Moorer, James Moorer, Ledell Moorer, William Moorer, Anthony Moorer; two sisters, Jessie Snow and Etherine Lee; five grandchildren; two sons-in-law; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; six nephews and seven nieces.

Ms. Louise Preston

Ms. Louise Preston, age 82, of Selma, AL died on August 22, 2006 at Park Place Nursing Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Selfield with Rev. George Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: three devoted nieces, Gloria Buford Edwards, Bernice Ford and Essie James; one sister-in-law, Pauline Davis; two aunts, Elieen Johnson, Ollie Mae Johnson; Goddaughter, Patricia Arrell; four sisters, Cetonia Buford, Maggie James, Elizabeth (Azell) Ford, and Emma Davis.

Miss Katrina Woods

Miss Katrina Woods, age 34, of Cleveland, Ohio passed away on August 16, 2006

in Uniontown, Alabama. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hebron Missionary Baptist Church in Safford, Alabama. Rev. John Mason will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Percy Montgomery

Percy Motgomery, age 95, of Selma died on August 22, 2006 at a local nursing facility. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at The Good Hope Baptist Church with Pastor John Ward officiating. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery with J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: one brother, George Montgomery of Birmingham; one special nephew, Percy Towns of Selma; three special nieces, Cleo M. Reese, Georgia Sullivan and Lillie Mae Smiley, all of Selma; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Violet Saulsberry Compton

Mrs. Violet Saulsberry Compton, age 70, of Demopolis, Alabama passed away on August 16, 2006 at Bryan Whitfield Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 206 at 2:30 p.m. at the New Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis, Alabama. Rev. Willie Williams will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Demopolis, Alabama. Mrs. Willie Mae Harrison

Mrs. Willie Mae Harrison, age 72, of Selma and Tyler died on August 18, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Camp Creek Baptist Church with Bishop C. J. Nicholson officiating.

Survivors include: nine daughters, Annie (Gregory) Pettaway, Betty Harrison, Wille (Lawrence) Page, Susie Harrison, Mary (Clyde) Lewis, Janie Harrison, Bernice (Claude) Miles, Mattie Harrison and Doris Harrison; six brothers, Melvin (Christine) Myers, Robert (Annie) Myers, Issac (Nita) Myers, Jimmy Myers, Joe (Dolly) Myers, and Richard Myers; three sisters, Ethel (John) Jennings, Lousie (Julian) Allen, and Beatrice Turks; twenty-six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three sons-in-law; five brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; twenty-seven nieces; sixteen nephews; three aunts; one uncle; and a host of other cousins and relatives. Also surviving is a devoted friend, Mrs. Betty Mae Smith.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Harrison, Darryl Page, Marcus Page, Gregory Pettaway, Clyde Lewis, Claude Miles and Gregory Pettaway II.

William Clibrey

William E. (Dick) Clibrey, age 79 , of Selma, AL, passed away August 23, 2006.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 25, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Kenny Hatcher officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Vick Clibrey; one son, John (Tracey) William Clibrey; two daughters, Rosemary Clibrey Folsom (Dana), Susan Clibrey Scarbrough (Ronald); grandchildren, Mary Susan Rives Crovato (Adam), Robert Andrew Rives, Meredith Folsom Bartley. Ryan Folsom, Megan A. Wade, Olivia B. Headley, and John William Clibrey II. Great-grandchildren Logan L. Bartley, and Emily G. Bartley. Brothers James Alan Wimberly (Kathy). Half-brothers Charles Clibrey (Donis), Johnny Clibrey (Annie Lou), Bobby Clibrey (Suzy) and David Clibrey (Diane). Sister Jean C. Hayes (Hoyt), half-sister Judy Breeden (Bob) and Cheryl C, Maxwell (Roland). Mr. Clibrey was preceded in death by his parents William F. and Velma Frith Wimberly Clibrey, brother Ernest L. Clibrey and sister Delores Stafford. Mr. Clibrey was Deacon Emeritus of Northside Baptist Church and a Life member Mason.

Pallbearers will be Adam Crovato, Dana Folsom, Ronnie Scarbrough, Andy Frith, Alvis Frith, Darrin Frith, Gary Maluda, and Bob Huett. Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of Northside Baptist Church, the Harmony Sunday School Class and Selma Masonic Lodge #926.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at Northside Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Northside Baptist Church building fund.
