Arthur Bain Gleason, Jr.

Arthur Bain Gleason, Jr. died at his home Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006.

Mr. Gleason was preceded in death by his son, Arthur Bain Gleason III, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Gleason, Sr., his parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Henry. He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Rosemary Henry Gleason, daughters and sons-in-law, Tracey and Jim Cothran and Tamara and John Hanning; grandchildren Arthur Bain Gleason Hanning, Kendall Hayes Cothran, and Andrew Grey Cothran. Also surviving are his brother-in-law and wife, Ted and Dbe Henry, his nephews and their wives, Davis and Cathy Henry, Drew and Tamara Hudson Henry, Denson and Lauren Henry; his niece Hope Henry Patterson and her husband George. Mr. Gleason has three great-nieces and four great-nephews. Children of his heart are Connie, David and Christopher Weaver and Ira, Sarah, Susanna and Sarah Mitchell Wagoner.

Mr. Gleason’s life will be celebrated at 2:00 o’clock, Monday, August 14, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church, Selma, AL. The Reverends Drew Morrow Henry and Dr. Ronald Stone will preside. Burial will be in the New Live Oak Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Clark. Jackie Cummings, Hank Homes, Ronnie Leet, Randy Lovelady, Joe Patrick, David Pearce, Henry Pitts, Jim Rousey, Dr. Todd Sherrer, Milam Turner III, and Buddy Wittichen. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be made to the Sturdivant Museum Association, the Selma-Dallas County Public Library, the Bradley Johnson Memorial Fund (c/o Southeastern Jr. Golf Tour, P. O. Box 3933, Auburn, Al 36831) or to one’s favorite charity.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home, Selma, AL.

Homer Bryant

Virginia Homer Bryant of Tuscaloosa, formerly of Selma, died August 12, 2006 at DCH Hospital in Tuscaloosa. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Carroll Plourde officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by her husband, LT/COL (USAF RET.) J. Robert Bryant.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Dave Raynowska of Northport, her devoted grandchildren, David and Jill Raynowska, James Bryant Raynowska, and Mary Catherine Raynowska, all of Tuscaloosa. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, J. Bryant and Celia Blake Raynowska, a brother and sister-in-law, Matthew and Fran Homer of Rancho Bernardo, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

After retiring the Bryant’s moved back to Selma where Ginny was active in the Selma Country Club Woman’s Golf Association, she was a Pink Lady at the Vaughan Hospital, a member of Queen of Peace Woman’s Club. She is a past chairman of the Selma Beautification Council and a member of the M.R.S. (Married Real Selmains) Social Club. In Tuscaloosa she was a founding member of the Women of St. Francis, a member of Avant-Garde Study Group, Astra Study Club, Encore Bridge Club, Focus Duplicate Bridge Group, The West Alabama Retired Officers Association, and the Tuscaloosa Symphony Guild.

Pallbearers are John Beidron, George Denmark, Landis McMillian, J.T. Downard, Cecil Smith, Diego Gimenez, Larry Ingram, and Seymour Cohn. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Boy Scouts, Catholic Charities or your favorite charity.
