What’s going on at police dep’t?

To the Editor:

Have you ever wondered what your taxes are used for in the city of Selma?

Let’s take the Selma Police Department civilian workers for example:

The chief and mayor have put them in police uniforms that cost $370 just for one set, which includes shirt, pants, belt, shoes, name tag, jacket.

A second set at $150 plus a third at $150 equals $300. Keep in mind they need a total of three sets.

This is for all new employees (if they stay). Do you plan on swearing them as city of Selma police officers?

Not only are they walking targets for any Looney Toon to take target practice with. Is this a wise thing to do or is this one way of saying “we have more than enough police officers to serve and protect? But the chief comes to work wearing his pimp suits. Where is his uniform? Is that appropriate attire for the chief of police?

Mayor Perkins, is this something that you want for the people and the city of Selma?

My questions are why are these people being put in danger?

I am sure that money can be spent on something worthwhile like a decent raise for our city workers, fixing the elevator (which has been out since January), painting the building, computers and printers for detectives and office workers, a telephone system that works, which has been out since January also (if you need a detective, good luck), getting rid of mold and mildew and aseptic in the building.

You have employees who are getting sick from being in the building.

It is sad that they can’t go to work without getting sick.

If you don’t believe me, go by the safety building and smell for yourself.
