Stop proposed landfill on River

To the Editor:

There has been a landfill proposed in Lowndes County which would border the Alabama River.

Six states will be sending their trash and debris (including contaminated hurricane debris) to this dump. Isn’t placing a dump on a major waterway such as the Alabama River a mistake?

Shouldn’t all Alabamians be concerned about the contamination of soil and water from this dump?

Won’t the run-off from this dump will end up in the river?

This contamination will affect not only Lowndes County but ALL counties southward along the river all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.

Call the Lowndes county commissioners, your Representative and Senators and tell them you don’t want a dump!

There is a public meeting of the Lowndes County Commission on July 24

at

6 p.m. in Hayneville, and we urge all who share our concerns to attend and let your voice be heard.
