“This is an exciting sports town and I’m looking forward to taking over where Griffin left off in covering Selma and Dallas County sports,” Jones said.

Jones previously worked as a staff reporter for the Selma newspaper, covering the city council and police department, among other beats. Prior to that, he was sports editor at The Clanton Advertiser.

A native of Dothan, Jones graduated from Troy University with a bachelor of arts degree in broadcast journalism. He was sports editor on the college newspaper, the Tropolitan, and did an internship at The Montgomery Advertiser.

“We’re glad we have George to step up to the plate,” said Jesse Lindsey, publisher of The Selma Times-Journal. “He brings experience, as well as a love of community sports to the position, and we know we’ll see great things as a result of this promotion.”
