Cyrus Lamar Brady, Jr.

Cyrus Lamar Brady, Jr., age 69, died on June 3, 2006, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on May 3, 1937 in Waxhaw, NC to Mrs. Geraldine Brady and the late Mr. Cyrus Lamar Brady, Sr. Lamar served his country in the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal region.

His professional career began at Bowater Corporation in Catawba, SC and later transferred to the Hammermill Papers Group in Selma, AL where he spent the majority of his working career.

He retired from International Paper Company, Selma, AL in 1995.

Following retirement he consulted in the pulp and paper industry and holds several U.S. Patents in the field of pulping process operations.

His retirement was enriched by his lovely grandchildren and loving wife.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed family fishing trips to central Florida.

Lamar is survived by his wife of 21 years, Fannie Mae; his daughter, Beth Wilson-Clark; his daughter and her husband, Tracy and Jim Farley; his step-son, Clark Goss; his mother, Geraldine McCain Brady; his step-son and his wife, John and Jill Goss; brother and his wife, Lou and Cathy; nine grandchildren, Laken Wilson, Will Wilson, Brady Wilson, Alison Clark, Keeton Moseley, Waverly Moseley, Breanna Moseley, Claytin Goss and John Goss III. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin; his son, Ted; and grandson, McCain Moseley.

Visitation will be during the hours of 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 5, 2006 at Ridout’s Brown Service Prattville Chapel, 347 E Main St., Prattville, AL.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Rock Hill Cemetery, Hwy 14, Autaugaville, AL. The Rev. Garner Clark, pastor, will officiate.

Pallbearers will include Ernest Barton, Melvin Dale, Norman Mills, Freddy Thorn, Mike Walker, and William Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will include Thomas Blue, Jim Crowley, Harold Curtis, Jack Holder, Mark Kowlzan, Allen Longcrier, Dan McKenzie, Jerry Roberts, Gilbert Scott, Robert Tate, Frank Threadgill, Monty Brady, Tommy Norwood and Gary Brady.

Arrangements are by Ridout’s Brown Service Prattville Chapel.

Harold Clemons

Harold Clemons, age 45, of Marion passed away on June 4, 2006.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.

Willie James Roper, Sr. (WJ)

Willie James Roper, Sr. (WJ), the son of the late Atles Stephens Roper and Cummings Roper, was born in Snowden, AL on April 12, 1927. After a lengthy illness, he died on June 1, 2006 at his home in Selma.

W.J. attended Hopewell Baptist Church in Beloit, AL. A skilled professional painter, W.J. served the Selma Community and surrounding area as a painter contractor for over 50 years. A dedicated businessman, he strived to provide all his many customers with professional quality service.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughters, Aretha (Gregory) Woodson of Selma, AL, Rothia (Vernon) Johnson of Montgomery, AL, Belinda Faye Roper of Selma, AL; his sons, Willie James Roper, Jr. of Selma, AL, Aaron Roper of Georgia, his sons, Cedric Savage of Selma, AL, Sammy Taylor of Selma, AL, Andrew Roper of Georgia, Andre (Venus) Roper of Selma, AL, Christopher Roper of Birmingham, AL, and Walter King Roper of Selma, AL; his grandchildren, Tamica (Donald) Shepard of Selma, AL, Randale Robinson of Montgomery, AL, D’Vonte Robinson of Montgomery, AL, Mario, Desmond, and Willie Roper III of Selma, AL, Terrell Roper and Cherrell Roper of Selma, AL, and Arianna Roper of Texas. Three great grandchildren, Jailyn Shepard, Kailyn Shepard, and Mario Roper, Jr. of Selma, AL. A devoted sister, Viola Sellers-Powell of Montgomery, AL; a brother, Ezekiel (Ruth) Roper of New Jersey, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1416 Selma Avenue, Selma, AL, on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Daryll Moore officiating. Millers Funeral Service, 608 St. Phillips Street, Selma, AL 36701 has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Kevin Darnell Caver

Kevin Darnell Caver, age 21, of Plantersville, AL died on May 31, 2006 in Maplesville, AL.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 12:00 noon at Pleasant Valley in Jones, AL with Rev. M.C. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Little Zion Cemetery in Plantersville, AL directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include: parents, Walter and Mary Caver; two brothers, Jerome Caver and Alonzo Caver; three sisters, Brenda (Norman) Laister, Linda (James) Bray and Tonya Caver; one niece, Natasha Laister; four nephews, Carlos Caver, Norman J. Laister, Derriet T. Moore, Jr., and Alex Tyus; one step niece, Dominique Hodges.

Cousin and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Barnett Rucker

Mary Lee Barnett Rucker, age 85, passed away on June 4, 2006 at Southland Nursing Home following a short illness.

The family will receive friends at Kirk Funeral Home Marion Chapel on Monday, June 5, 2006 between the hours of 6:00-8:00 PM.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Marion.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The Rev. Thomas Fondren will officiate.

Mrs. Tucker is survived by her sons: John E. Thicker, Jr. (Mary) and Timothy Lane Tucker (Linda) both of Marion. Grandchildren are Ty Glaze (Ania) of Warner Robbins, GA, Mike Tucker (Belinda) of Prattville, AL, Daryl Glaze of Selma, AL, Pat Lynch (Roy) of Town Creek, AL, Keith Eiland (Ally) of Sprott, Al, Randy Glaze (Angel) of Prattville, AL, Stephanie Craycraft (Tony) of New Martinsville, WV, Brandon Tucker (Jennifer) of Clanton, AL and Bart Tucker (Abby) of Ringgold, GA and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Lois B. Holmes, a brother, Jerry Barnett both of Marion, and a son-in-law, Paul Glaze of Selma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Tucker, Sr., and her daughters, Margie Glaze and Jean Eiland.

Freddie Barge Williams

Freddie Barge Williams, age 78, formerly of Sardis, passed away on May 30, 2006 in Lima, OH.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul’s Community Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph Coleman officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery with J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.

She was born on August 20, 1927 to the late Lucille Soles and James Vasser and was a member of Mt. Olive #2 Baptist Church while living in Sardis.

She later moved to Lima, OH and married Willie Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Willie Williams; her children’s father, Roy Barge; four daughters, Gloria, Ann (Isaac) and Mary (Jehosaphat); two sons, Jeff (Hannah) and Patrick (Debra); sixteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; on sister, Juanita Tripp; two brothers, Henry (Roberta) Eaton and Oliver (Alean) Eaton; plus many other relatives and friends.

Willie Mae Jackson

Willie Mae Jackson, age 71, of Montgomery, Alabama died on May 31, 2006 at home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Millie Chapel with Ella Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlwan Cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include: four sons, Sammy Lee Jackson, Henry Lee Johnson, Willie Lee Johnson and Bobby Melton; eight daughters, Brenda Johnson Lewis, Linda Johnson, Etta Johnson, Lillie Johnson, Rosetta Bean, Mary Johnson, Berry Hogue and Joann Melton; three brothers, Frank Davis, Eddie Davis, and Willa Davis; three sisters, Mattie Johnson, Ethel Lee and Beatrice Johnson; twenty grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents, Willa Johnson and Mattie Johnson, one daughter, Lucy Johnson, and one brother, Willa Johnson.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
