Congrats VFW award winners

Six area servicemen and women were honored by the local VFW (Veterans of Foreign wars) last week. The honors were awarded at its annual Servicemen of the Year luncheon. Awards were in honor of a law enforcement officer, fireman, emergency worker, teachers and students who help make a difference daily in our community. The VFW has long given back to the community and praised those for making it better for all to live in. Looking over the newly awarded men and women, it is evident that the tradition continues.
This year recipients of the Selma VFW Post 3016 Servicemen of the Year awards were Aeneas Pettway, Randy Wallace, Jeb Harrison, Pat Clare, Jeffrey Hardy and Shannon Leigh Waters. Each came from different walks of life, serve in different positions, but all have and are making a difference.
In a time where the attention is put on things gone awry, it is great to have an organization with a member body focused on praising those who work diligently to improve the community. The recipients will most likely cherish the award and continue working toward being a great servicemen or woman. “We appreciate them. They watch over us all year long and don’t ever get recognized for it,” said post commander Rod Stone. “They only get cussed for it most of the time. Without them, we wouldn’t have a community.”
Thanks to the VFW for putting their stamp on our community and awarding those who continue to work toward making Selma and Dallas County a great and safe place to live.
