Aubrey
W. Cason
Aubrey White Cason, age 63, died Monday, May 15, 2006 in a Tuscaloosa hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday May 18, 2006 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Bro. Al Finch and Rev. Micah Gandy officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Cason is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cason, of Selma, sons, Kenneth (Jane) Cason, of Norfolk, VA, Kelly (Stephanie) Cason, of Akron, OH, daughters, Dawn (Chris) Jones, of Woodruff, SC, Sara Cason, of Woodruff, SC, Tammy (Randy) Pugh, of Selma, Tracy (Jim) Bailey, of Tuscaloosa, grandchildren, Tyler, Katherine, Rachael, Annie, Joshua, Quinton, Summer, Madison, Graham, and great-grandchild Christopher. Mr. Cason is also survived by his brothers Ronnie (Cecelia) Cason, of Virginia Beach, VA and David Cason, of NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Lynn Johnson, Farrell Ford, Joe McConnell, Mac Martin, Roddy Cahoun, and Rickey McDowell.
Mr. Cason was a retired Senior Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force with over 20 years of service.
The family will receive friends Wednesday May 17, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Willis Harold Mott
Willis Harold Mott, age 70 died Monday, May 15, 2006 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday May 17, 2006 at Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church with Dr. Cecil Williamson officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery.
Mr. Mott is survived by his wife, Eva Jo Walker Mott of Selma, son, Curtis (Vanessa) Mott of Stanton, daughter, Gail Rolfe of Selma, Melanie (Eric) Moore of Boyton Beach, FL, grandchildren, Matthew Rolfe of Hartselle, SC, Adam Moore of Gainesville, FL, and Kendall Mott of Stanton. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Mott of Selma, niece, Janis (Miles) Gagner of Prattville, nephew, Marty (Missy) Roney of Prattville, and great-nephew, Brett Gagner of Prattville.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willis Henry Mott and Mary Sue Edwards Mott, and sister, Barbara (Walt) Roney.
Mr. Mott was a member of the Gideons and the Masonic Lodge.
Pallbearers are Bob Brown, David Brown, James Carter, Herman Majors, Max Mott, George Taylor, and grandsons, Adam Moore, and Matthew Rolfe.

Newton Horace Messer
Newton Horace Messer, age 84, died Monday, May 15, 2006 in Alabaster, Alabama. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2006 in the chapel of Lawrence Brown – Service Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Messer and Rev. Larry Stover officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 18, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Messer was born March 2, 1922 in Verbena, Alabama, but spent his youth in Selma. He was a decorated WWII navy veteran, spending most of his active duty assignment in the South Pacific. After the war, Mr. Messer moved his family to Houston, Texas, where he was employed as a carpenter, builder, and small business owner until his retirement in 1990. He and his wife returned to Selma in September 2004.
Mr. Messer is survived by his wife of 64 years, Daisy Messer of Selma; and children, Glenn (Edra) Messer of Winston-Salem, NC, Estelle (LaRoy) Scott of Conroe, Texas, Frank (Vickie) Messer of Houston, Texas, Nelda (John) Norton of Houston, Texas, and Mary Jo (Fred) Clinkscale of Houston, Texas. They are also survived by 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that living memorials in honor of Mr. Messer may be made to the building fund of Selma Church of the Nazarene at 2310 Summerfield Rd. in Selma.
Jesse B. Jones
Jesse B. Jones, age 61, of Paso Robles, CA, died on April 26, 2006 in Paso Robles, CA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 12:00 noon at Old Oak Grove,
Sprott, AL with Rev. Woodie L. Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the church yard with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Evelyn Daniel Cox
Evelyn Daniel Cox died Monday, May 15, 2006 at home.
She was 97 years old.
Born in 1908, she was a native of Columbus, Georgia, and moved to New Orleans in 1978 to live near her daughter.
She was a 1929 graduate of Newcomb College and a 1930 graduate of Emory University with a Masters in Library Science.
Mrs. Cox was a charter member of the Junior League of Columbus, Georgia and a sustaining member of the Junior League of New Orleans.
She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, the DAR, Le Petit Salon, and the Junto Literary Society of Columbus, Georgia.
Mrs. Cox was a quiet philanthropist.
She established a generous education scholarship at Emory University in memory of her father, Dr. Roland Bird Daniel, a respected Georgia educator.
She supported the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Preservation Resource Center, Newcomb College/Tulane, W.Y.E.S., Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Ochsner Alzheimer Fund, Vieux Carre Property Owners, the Special Olympics, Claude A. Shumate, Jr. Fund at Auburn University, the Presbyterian Home for Children in Alabama, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Carlowville, Alabama, Taylors Creek Cemetery Association, Midway Georgia and Habitat for Humanity.
Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her late husband, Kyser Cox.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Cox Strub, her son-in-law, Dr. Richard Strub and one grandson, Tyner Brentz Strub.
The funeral will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Carlowville, Alabama and burial in the church’s cemetery.
