Carl Cope Morgan Jr.

Carl Cope Morgan Jr., age 85, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

He was born August 12, 1950, in Uniontown, Alabama to Carl Cope Morgan Sr. and Evelyn Ellis Morgan.

He attended Uniontown High School and graduated from Auburn University with a Master’s Degree in Agriculture Engineering.

Morgan served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the Alabama Army National Guard.

He was united in marriage to Jane Umstad Morgan in Selma, who preceded him in death.

His survivors are his daughters Janie Morgan Serotsky and Warnelle Morgan Beasley, both of Pensacola, and his son Carl Cope Morgan III of Selma.

Surviving grandchildren are Elizabeth Morgan Serotsky, San

Diego, and Matthew Glenn Serotsky (Dory), Nashville.

Morgan spent his life in service of others.

He served on the Selma City Council for 30 years and chaired many civic organizations during his lifetime.

He owned Blackbelt Tractor Company and managed this farm machinery business for almost 60 years.

He has been a resident of Nacogdoches for the past two years, relocating there to join his close personal friends, Patsy and Jack Sumrall.

His family is presently planning Memorial Services. Details will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Cahawba Rebuilding Fund c/o Selma Dallas County History Preservation Society, P.O.

Box 586, Selma, AL 36702, and the Selma Dallas County Public Library.

James Leon Craig

James Leon Craig, 71, of Georgia died May 5, 2006.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 1:00p.m at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. C.E. Mitchell officiating.

Burial will take place at Athens Baptist Church. Directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include one son, Darryl Prothro (Mother, Mae Jim Protho), one daughter, Betty Jean Irby (Mother, Rebecca Irby Dorsey), step-daughter, Sherry (Jerry) Campbell; one brother, James Edward Tower, a host of cousins and friends, Grandson, Desi Mackenzie Culverson; one aunt, Clara Watson, a special cousin, Adeline Watson.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Hunter Thomas

Pearline Craig Hunter Thomas, 54, of Orrville, Alabama died May 6, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Hospital.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 2:00p.m at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Woods officiating.

Burial in First Baptist Prosperity Community Cemetery.

Directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include husband, Raymond Thomas; parents, Annie McGinnis; two sons, Fredrick Hunter and Adrian (Linda) Hunter; four daughters, Shirley (Walter) James, Dorothy ( Calvin) Starks, Angela Hunter and Marquita Hunter; seven brothers, Robert (Evelyn) Jones, James (Diane) Craig, Johnny Craig, Arthur (Mary) Craig, Melvin (Janet) Craig, Alfred McGeinnis and Isaiah McGinnis; one sister, Willie Lee Larry; 11 grandchildren, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one brother-in-law and six sisters-in-law. A host of nieces, nephews and friends. Special friends, Creola Perry, Tammy, Louise Irby, Pinkie Ellis and Jarious Watters.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Ida Mae McGinnis.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

June Smith

June Smith, age 74, of Plantersville, AL passed away May 6, 2006 at a local nursing home.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 11, 2006, 1:00 p.m., at Plantersville Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Beaird officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, 10-11:00 a.m. at Selma Funeral Home.

She is survived by her son, Richard J. (Patricia) Smith; one daughter, Debra Smith, four sisters, Margie Myers, Mary Rainwater, Edna Looney, and Georgia Sanflippo; five grandchildren and her lifelong friends, Harry and Katherine Cogar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Smith, Sr.; a daughter, Marilyn Smith; a brother, Buddy Battle; a sister, Margaret Sanders and a grandson.

Pallbearers will be deacons of Plantersville Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ruby Dee Jones, age 69, of Demopolis, Alabama passed May 7, 2006 at Bryan Whifield Hospital, Demopolis, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Christian Chapel Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama. Rev. Fred Moore will officiate.

Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

Beonridge Bradley Sr., of Selma, Al died May 6, 2006 at his residence.

Services are scheduled for May 13, 2006 at 1:00p.m. at East Salem Baptist with Rev. W.J. Brown officiating.

Elder John Byrd

Elder John Byrd, age 78 of Forkland, Alabama passed May 8, 2006 at D.C.H. Regional Medical Center, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Visitation Services will be held Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Larkin & Scott Funeral Home Chapel.

The remains will then be forwarded to Bell & Clark Funeral Home, Hartford, CT, for funeral services on Tuesday, May 16, 2006.

Lonnie Charles Jones

Lonnie Charles Jones, age 58, of Valley Grande died Wednesday May 10, 2006 in a Birmingham hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 13, 2006 in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Johnathan Lambert and Rev.Timmy Jones. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Sandra B. Jones of Valley Grande, son, Kevin Jones of Valley Grande, daughter Carla J. (Don) Smith of Valley Grande, 4 grandchildren; Corey, Tyler and Noah Smith and Kaleb Jones. Brothers, Levert Jones of Selma and Donald (Marsha) Jones of Valley Grande, aunt, Martha Huckabee, and uncle, Harvey Hopkins, numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews, Kenny Girlie, Scott Girlie, Tim Jones, Tommy Jones, Torrey Jones, David Jones and Eric Jones. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday May 12, 2006.

Gertrude Rudolph

Gertrude Rudolph, age 96 of Montgomery, Alabama, a former native of Demopolis, Alabama and a retired educator with the Demopolis City School System, passed May 9, 2006 at the Cedar Assisted Living Facility, Montgomery, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama. Rev. James L. Dunn is the pastor. Rev. Dr. E. Baxter Morris will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama.

The remains will repose at the church one hour prior to the service.

Charles Bagley, 60, of Selma, Alabama died May 10, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Hospital.

Faye Purdie, of Birmingham, died May 7, 2006.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13 at 2 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Valhalla Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Faylicia Purdie; sons, Lamont Purdie and Kendrick Purdie; sisters, Barbara Patterson and Betty Hatcher; one grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. Bushelon Funeral Home directing.

(Mickey) Brislin

A graveside interment service will be held for M.S. ‘Mickey’ Brislin at 1:30p.m. Saturday, May 13 at Old Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Joseph S. Knight of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church officiating. Brislin, a native of Selma, died March 8, 2006.

He is survived by his wife Pat Beaver Brislin; a daughter, Judy Brislin Ollinger; sons Mickey Brislin III, Andrew Brislin and Charles Brislin; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
