Billy Jackson said his team didn’t exactly light the world on fire from the batter’s box, but that still didn’t stop them from winning Tuesday night.

Dallas County scattered eight runs in a shutout win over Selma at Bloch Park.

The Hornets (12-2) only had three hits from the fourth inning onward, but the Saints didn’t help their own cause by knocking just two hits the entire game.

Selma stayed in the ball game all the way up until the final inning when DCHS put four insurance runs on the board.

Selma starter Joe Moreland loaded the bases twice with walks and allowed three runs to score before leaving the game.

The big blow in the seventh came on a two-RBI single from Randall Hamilton to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead. Moreland worked 6 1-3 innings, giving up eight runs (three earned), on nine hits, walking three batters and striking out three.

Hamilton led DCHS with a 2-for-4 day with three RBIs.

The Saints (3-13) loaded the bases with two down in the third, but the rally ended when Justin Moorer lined out to shortstop Jacob Paxton.

Selma’s only hits came on singles from Byron Sewell in the first and Terrell Roper in the sixth.

Selma committed six errors in the game, and DCHS scored four runs off those miscues.

Cody Massey pitched four innings of shutout relief to get the win for the Hornets. He allowed one hit and struck out five batters, including the first three he faced.

Despite walking five batters, Shane Moreland worked three effective innings. He left the game after facing one batter in the fourth because of arm problems.

The Hornets broke a scoreless tie in the second with two runs. Massey reached on an error and later came home on a Hamilton single. Matthew Ross then singled to bring Hamilton in. Massey added an RBI single in the third, and Tyler Hollis singled in the fourth to bring in a run and give DCHS a 4-0 lead.

Hollis went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Massey and Ross were both 1-for-3 with an RBI.
