Motor-sports enthusiasts got the opportunity to see firsthand what a NASCAR Nextel Cup car looks like. And in some cases, had the opportunity to see if they had what it took to make it on pit road in the big leagues of auto racing.

Friday afternoon, the No. 12 Alltel car made its stop in Selma at the Alltel store on Highland Avenue.

The car brought with it a trio of helmets worn by Newman as well shoes and jumpsuits ranging from the generic Alltel suit to his royal blue Justice League suit.

Before coming to the Queen City, the No. 12 car had made stops in Prattville and Montgomery and was on its way to Troy and Dothan.

The No. 12 car that had been relegated to rolling tours, wasn’t just a display car.

The chassis was built and designed in 2001 and used for the next three seasons on the NASCAR Nextel Cup circuit.

The body, however, is from the 2006 season and is a replica of the one that Newman drives.
