Zettie Mae Vickers, age 68, of Selma, AL died on March 17, 2006 at Baptist South in Montgomery, AL.

James Spicer, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Vickers, Charles Vickers, Morris (Jocylin) Vickers and Eugene (Wanda) Vickers; five daughters, Ida (Darryl) McCrary, Clarice (Frankie) Robinson, Janie (Roger) Thomas, Linda Pierce and Jacklin Vickers; one sister, Mary Hardy; twenty-one grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sons-in-laws, two daughters-in-laws, three nephews and two nieces.

Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons.

Rosie Bell Griffin

Rosie Bell Griffin, age 86, of Dallas County AL died on March 19, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 1:00 pm at East Salem Baptist Church with W. J. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in East Salem Baptist Cemetery directed by Walker Mortuary.

Survivors include: five sons, Artis (Ella) Griffin of Selma, AL, Daniel Griffin of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joseph Griffin, Nathainal Griffin and Archie Griffin of Sardis, AL; three daughters, Olivia (Thomas) Henderson and Nomia Griffin of Indianapolis, Indiana and Leola Towns of Selma, AL; one sister, Hanna Griffin of Waco, TX; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, two sisters-in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Griffin, Jr., James Jones, James Griffin, Lee Griffin, Johnny Byrd, Gary Griffin and Lee Artis Griffin. Honorary pallbearer is Royce Porter.

Serous Lee Coleman

Serous Lee Coleman, of Maryland, died on March 22, 2006 in Maryland.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Service.

John Mebane Allen, III (Jack)

John Mebane, III (Jack), 83, of Graysville and Birmingham, died March 21, 2006 at home with family and friends.

He was born on May 19, 1922 in Knoxville, TN, to Mr. and Mrs. John M. Allen, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Ann Ralston Allen, a sister, Jean A. Phillips, and a brother, William Caswell Allen.

He is survived by his wife Earnestine K. Allen of Graysville, a son John M. Allen, IV, of Denver, Colorado; daughters Katherine A. (Kitty) Ludolf of Allgood, AL, Elizabeth A. (Betty) Purcell of Birmingham, AL, and Jean Ann A. Schott of Jackson, MS., grandchildren Michael

Allen, Eric Allen, Symone Allen, Leila Schott and Ann Marie Schott.

Mr. Allen was a graduate of The University of Tennessee and had a long and successful career in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management working for Homer Kendall, Taylor Craft, General Motors, The Crossett Company/Georgia Pacific, Georgia Kraft, Hammermill Paper Company and Potlatch Corporation.

He had a lifetime of community involvement including various Chambers of Commerce, School Boards, Rotary Clubs, United Way Chairmanships, American Red Cross, and vestry member and warden of Episcopal Churches in several communities. In recent years, Mr. Allen has worked countless hours as a “full time volunteer” for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham. His primary interests were family, church, woodworking, and golf.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 24 at 12:00 noon at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 3775 Crosshaven Drive, Birmingham, AL, 35225. A reception will follow the service. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2006 at Old Gray Cemetery, 543 North Broadway, Knoxville, TN followed by a reception at 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham, Attn: Donations, P. O. Box 540, Fairfield, AL, 35064 “In memory of Jack Allen” or to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

James Thomas

James Thomas, age 72, of Selma, AL died on March 21, 2006 at Park Place Nursing Home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Lily Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include his wife, Freddie M Thomas; step son-in-law, Moses Ray; grandson, Moses Ray, Jr.; granddaughter, Penny Ray; three brothers, Clifton (Louise) Thomas, Eugene (Alice) Thomas and Eddie (Bee) Fancher; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his step daughter, Leanna Ray.

Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.

Jared Paul Johnson, infant, of Greensboro, AL died on March 21, 2006 at DCH Northport.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery with Glenn Sargent officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes, Greensboro Chapel directing.

Survivors include: parents, Jeromy Cleveland Johnson and Sonia Jean Sargent Johnson of Greensboro, AL; paternal grandparents, Paul and Sharon Johnson of Greensboro, AL and maternal grandparents, Glenn and Sara Sargent of Mobile, AL.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Martha Johnson.

Mrs. Alma D. Lucy

Mrs. Alma D. Lucy, age 79, of Dixons Mills, Alabama passed away on March 18, 2006 at Columbus Medical Center, Columbus, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 12:00 noon at the El Shaddai A.O.H. Church, Dixons Mills, Alabama. Elder Gregory Lucy will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 am. Family Hour will be held Friday night from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the church. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements.

Matthew Wilson, Sr.

Matthew Wilson, Sr., age 57, of Selma, AL died on March 21, 2006.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, March 25, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Summer Grove Baptist Church with Eric Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Summer Grove Baptist Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include his wife, Delois Wilson; father, Eddie M. Wilson; two sons, Eric and Rodney Wilson; one daughter, Catina Wilson; two brothers, Lindsey and Jerome Wilson; three sisters, Alberta, Diane and Rosie Wilson; six grandchildren; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; six brothers-in-laws and five sisters-in-laws.

Beatrice Brown

Beatrice Brown, age 33, of Sardis, AL died on March 21, 2006 at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, AL.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Miller Funeral Services with Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery with Miller Funeral Services directing.

Survivors include her father, Owen Jackson; two sons, Garfield Dwayne Brown and Derrick Demond Brown; two daughters, Christine Diana Brown and Kim Denise Brown; three brothers, Willie James Brown, Michael Owen Brown and Cecil Bernard Hill; three sisters, Della Watts, Patricia Brown and Geneva Wilson; two brothers-in-laws; two sisters-in-laws; five nephews and seven nieces.

Sally Joyce Holmes

Sally Joyce Holmes; age 80, died Thursday March 23, 2006 in a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday March 25, 2006 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. George Jones officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by her children, Brenda J. Hudson (Hayward), Richard “Ricky” A. Holmes (Donna), grandchildren, Eric Desch (Amy), Mitch Livingston, Misti Wilkinson (Allen), Joey Holmes, great grandchildren, Hunter and Analeise Desch, and Allie Wilkinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard E. Holmes.

Quinton Green, age 23, of Marion, AL died on March 19, 2006 in Marion.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 2:00 pm Morning Star Baptist Church, Marion, AL with Rev. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include parents, Arnita and Ben Rutledge; and grandmother, Lucy Green.

Mr. Reginald “Scotty” Jackson, age 55, of Wyandanch, New York, formerly of Forkland, Alabama passed away on March 20, 2006 at his residence.
