Mary M. Ellison

Mary M. Ellison, 53, of Selma, AL died on February 13, 2006 at her home.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2006 in Birmingham.

Survivors include one son, Phillip J. Stayer; two daughters, Kathleen and Regina Stayer; six brothers, Joseph, Mike, David Silva; Robert John and Leroy Eilers; thirty grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Malcolm Randolph Oxford

Malcolm Randolph Oxford, age 85, who died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 was born December 31, 1920 to John W. and Susan Bryant Oxford of Orrville, AL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00, Friday, February 17, 2006, at Orrville Baptist Church with Rev. Glen Taylor & Rev. Elwood Sims officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery.

Family visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 7:00 at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Mr. Oxford was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Randalyn Oxford and John Henderson, his parents, and his brothers, John Oxford and Carl Oxford.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth McDowell Oxford, his children, John McDowell, Judy Oxford, Leah Oxford and Buddy McLaughlin. Grandchildren; Dr. David ( Janine) Henderson, Vicki H. ( William) Dixon, Dr. Allen (Kerry) Henderson, John Oxford, Rand Oxford,

Susan M. (Trent) Hughes, Oxford (Amanda) McLaughlin and Bain McLaughlin; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Conner and Taylor Henderson, William, Grant, and Bailey Dixon, Jackson and Gunnar Henderson, Malcolm and Matthew Hughes, and Margaret McLaughlin. He is also survived by a brother, Gordon Oxford of Bessemer.

A life long learner, Mr. Oxford received his formal education at Orrville High School, Marion Military Institute and the University of Alabama.

He was a deacon of Orrville Baptist Church and a member of the Selma Lions Club.

Mr. Oxford’s early employment was with Douglas Aircraft in California. Following service in the United States Navy, he returned to Selma, where he began the business which became Oxford Manufacturing Company.

In retirement, he found great satisfaction in raising cattle and growing citrus fruit on his south Dallas County Acres.

Willie McElroy

Willie McElroy, 81, of Orrville, AL died on February 11, 2006 at his home.

Services are scheduled for February 18, 2006 at 12:00 noon at St. Mary Church with Rev. J.M. McQueen officiating.

Burial will follow in the church yard cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Home.

James Monroe Edwards

James Monroe Edwards, 78 years old of Clanton, Alabama died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 in Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

He was born on Friday, August 26, 1927 in Chilton County, Alabama, son of the late Jasper Edwards and the late Elizabeth Popwell.

He worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for Gas Industry.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Edwards; three daughters, Ms. Cherry Nielsen of Selma, AL., Mrs. Sue (Bob) McMasters of Selma, AL., Ms. Connie Edwards of Savannah, GA.; one step-daughter, Ms. Renee Sample of Montevallo, AL.; one step-son, Mr. Mark Edwards of Jemison, AL.; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Mims of Ringold, GA., Mrs. Leola Milford of Alexander City, AL.; three grandsons, Mr. Duane McMasters of Savannah, GA., Mr. Jay Nielsen of Selma, AL., Mr. Matthew Sample of Montevallo, AL.; two granddaughters, Mrs. Michelle Baxley of Louisville, KY., Mrs. Suzanne Sample of Montevallo, AL.; one great grandchild, Anna Wood, Washington.

He was preceded in death by Wife, Deane Robinson Edwards.

Friends will be received 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, Clanton, Alabama.

Services will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, February 17, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Tony Smitherman officiating.

Interment will follow in the Martin Memorial Cemetery, Clanton, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, donations to West End Baptist Building Fund or Elkdale Baptist in Selma, Alabama.

Mary Elizabeth Jones

Mary Elizabeth Jones, age 87, of Prattville, AL died peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2006 at a local health care facility.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. from the Autaugaville Baptist Church, with Rev. Garner Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Hill Cemetery, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by one sister, Fannie Ruth Stewart. She is survived by her beloved spouse of 67 years, James Earl Jones, Jr. of Prattville, AL; one daughter, Janice (Jim) Baker of Prattville, AL.; three sons, Jimmy (Bess) Jones of Shalimar, FL., Luther (Kay) Jones of Autaugaville, AL., Kirk (Brenda) Jones of Selma, AL.; eight grandchildren, Scott Baker, Marianne Estess, Adrianne McGeehee, Fonna Stephens, Lela Jones, Jodie Jones, Paul Kirk Jones and Kalli Jones; six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Hardy, Eddie Jones, Billy Brooks, Clint Kent, Julius Brooks, Kenny Deramus, Jerry Bender and Ken Owens.

William “Soul” Smith

Mr. William “Soul” Smith, age 64 of Demopolis, Alabama passed away on February 7, 2006 at Bryant Whitfield Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 17, 2006 at 12:00 noon at New Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis, Alabama.

The remains will repose at the church on Friday beginning at 11:00 A.M.
