Public officials should obey the law

To the Editor:
I was dismayed to the point of disgust at the actions of our city council. They have enough brains to know that the law says, “reasonable cost of reproducing.” They just refuse to obey the law. If the city and county governments can’t produce reproductions of documents at a lower cost than they are advertising, then they should get a more efficient copier or get out of office and let someone else do the job. Shame! shame on them. Every one of them swore an oath to a Holy God to “uphold the laws of Alabama.”
They are all knowledgeable enough to know that many courts and the attorney general have held that the cost can only include the variable cost (i.e. The cost of the ink and paper). When the people of Selma and Dallas County get a voter roll in their hands and hit the streets to talk about the issues, we will get someone in there who can obey the law.
