Billy Joe Oliver

Billy Joe Oliver, age 49, of Alhambra, IL and formerly of Selma, AL passed away Friday, January 27, 2006 in a Maryville, IL hospital.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 1, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home with Mike Dechant officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 31, 2006, 6-8:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth M. “Becky” Oliver of Alhambra, IL; his father, Ernest H. Oliver of Jones, AL; one son, Steven R. Oliver of Alhambra, IL; two brothers, Ray A. (friend Kelly Latham) Oliver and David E. (Julie) Oliver both of Jones, AL; two brother and sister-in-laws, Terry (Nancy) Fancher of Selma, AL and Ricky (Lisa) Fancher of Montgomery, AL; father and mother-in-law, Herbert (Marie) Fancher of Valley Grande, AL; nieces and nephews, Nolan Fancher, Michael Fancher, Mandi Fancher, Justin Oliver, Brad Oliver, Eric Champion, Lauren Lockhart and Josh Lockhart.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Faye Oliver; maternal grandparents, Otis (Hazel) Hopkins; paternal grandparents, Carlton (Mae) Oliver; brother James “Pedro” Oliver who died on October 17, 1986 and a niece, Christy Oliver.

Billy was born in Selma, AL and graduated from Dallas County High School in Plantersville, AL in 1975.

He later attended Wayne Community College.

He worked as Director of Maintenance for Allied Automotive Group for the past six years.

Billy built a Monster Truck named Dixie Devil.

He enjoyed showing it and recently started to restore it with his son. Billy was a very dedicated husband and father and will be sadly missed by his family.

Pallbearers will be Justin Oliver, Bill Lightfoot, Artie Freine, Joey Baker, Steve Morton and Tony Fuqua.

Memorials may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Association, 8645 Old Bonhomme, St. Louis, MO 63100.

Terry Paige

Mr. Terry Paige, age 50, of Demopolis, Alabama passed Monday, January 23, 2006 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama. Rev. Mitchell Congress

will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama.

The remains will lie in state at the church beginning at 12:00 noon.

John Thomas Abbott, Jr.

Mr. John Thomas Abbott, Jr, 80, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2006 in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness..

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Pletcher, AL with Rev. Sandy Simmons officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

He is survived by a son, Billy Roger Abbott (Jean) of Prattville, AL; daughter, Shirley Ann (Abbott) Worrell (Charlie) of Selma, AL, daughter, Donna Gail (Abbott) Goray (David) of Jacksonville, AL; former wife, Vera (Popwell) Abbott of Selma, AL and a sister-in-law, Peggy Abbot of Brent, AL; grandchildren, Lance Abbott (Jenny) of Charlotte, MI, Kevin Worrell and fiance Margaret Groves of Tuscaloosa, AL, Lauren (Worrell) Goodwin (Heath) of Prattville, AL, Dustin Walker (Shannon) and Matthew Walker (Kendale) of Jemison, AL, Suzanne (Walker) Popwell of Clanton, AL, Shaina Edwards and Amber Goray of Jacksonville, AL, Tracy (Abbott) Putteet (Ryan) and Stephanie (Abbott) Turner (Jon) of Prattville, AL; greatgrandchildren, Caleb, Corey, Ashton, Abigail, Cheyanne, Mattison, and Katelyn and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Earl Abbott and wife Rosa Lee (Barrett) Abbott, and his sisters, Alma Carter and Ruth Apperson, brothers, Aubrey Abbott and Kent Abbott and of course, his father, John Thomas Abbott, Sr. and mother, Ulnah Dell (Judy) Abbott.

He was born in Pletcher, AL on December 23, 1925 and lived there while raising a family for several years and later moved to Selma where he held various positions.

His last place of employment before retiring was with Pilliod Cabinet Company in Selma.

Mr. Abbott was a veteran of World War II with the 101st Airborne Squadron and received an Honorable Discharge.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kevin Worrell, Lance Abbott, Dustin Walker, Matthew Walker, Ryan Putteet and Jon Turner.

Honorary pallbearers will be all of his friends that he enjoyed playing music with over the years.

Mr. Abbot was loved, well respected and will be missed by many.

He expressed his trust in God and was of the Methodist faith.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 31, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.
