Mrs. Sara Holmes Robinson

1911-2006

Funeral service for Mrs. Sara Holmes Robinson, age 94 of Alexander City, will be Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Alexander City. The Rev. Ron Lukat will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alexander City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.

Mrs. Robinson passed away on Monday, January 16, 2006 at her residence. She was born on October 15, 1911 in Selma, Alabama to Richard Howard Holmes and Mary Darling Hooper Holmes. Mrs. Robinson received her undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and her Master’s Degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now known as Auburn University. Mrs. Robinson was an English teacher at Alexander City High School, Alexander City Jr. High School and Benjamin Russell High School. She was a former member and Past President of The Tuesday Study Club. During World War II, she was active with the Red Cross. She was a member of The Seekers Bible Study group and was also a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Women. She was a very faithful and active member of the First Presbyterian Church. In 1991 she celebrated fifty-five years of active membership of the First Presbyterian Church. She was also involved in planning for the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph Hunt Robinson, Jr and wife, Lynda Hair Robinson and Richard Howard Robinson and wife, Elizabeth Petrey Robinson; grandchildren, Ross Hunt Robinson, Ryan Hooper Robinson and wife, Traci Smith Robinson, Luke Sanford Robinson and wife, Emily Truitt Robinson and Thomas Austin Robinson and wife, Alison Khoury Robinson; great grandchildren, Hannah Jaynes Robinson, Sara Darling Robinson, Skye Elizabeth Robinson and Truitt Richard Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Robinson, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the First Presbyterian Church, 371 Jefferson Street, Alexander City, Alabama 35010.

Jerry Lee Black

Jerry Lee Black, 64, of Selma died January 11, 2006 at his home.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, January 19, 2006 at West Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. John D. Mobley officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two daughters, Mia (Tommy) Forest of LaPlace, LA., Myra (Keith) Moreno of Pelham, AL; three sons, Jerry ( Patricia) Black, Charles (Stephanie) Black of Selma and John (Irma) Black of Bamberg, Germany; two brothers, one sister, 5 sisters-in-laws, 7 brothers-in-laws, 5 grandsons, 9 granddaughters and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanford and Mary Black); his wife, Mary C. Black and sister, Willie Pearl.
