Selma sweeps Southside

All wins aren’t pretty ones. Just ask the Selma High Lady Saints who posted a 51-43 victory over the Southside Lady Panthers.

The Lady Saints used a 16-6 third period run to put the game out of reach, despite as a team shooting just 40 percent from the floor.

The Lady Saints shot 25-of-61 from the floor and grabbed 26 rebounds.

Erica Lumpkin led the scoring charge with 20 points and six rebounds.

Kermesha Strong finished with eight points and Tomeka Wilson added six points.

Selma High fought back in the first period to capture the 13-10 lead at the end of the first period, despite Southside draining a pair of three-pointers.

The Lady Saints and the Lady Panthers took turns leading during the second period.

But down the stretch the Lady Panthers added a 5-0 run to go into the intermission leading 28-23. Selma rallied back in the third period with a 10-0 run which brought the score from a 28-23 Southside lead to a 33-28 Selma lead before the Lady Panthers to call time out to talk things over with 3:51 left in the frame.

Southside snapped the Selma run with a three-pointer but when the horn sounded Selma was on top 39-35.

The Lady Saints pushed ahead again in the fourth frame with an 8-2 run to open the period.

Selma pushed ahead 49-37 en route to the 51-43 victory. Selma will travel to face regional leader Jeff Davis on Tuesday.
