Frank James

Mr. Frank James Sr., 87, of Selma, Alabama died January 6, 2006.

Mr. James was a member of Salem #1 Baptist Church in Minter, Alabama.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00p.m on Friday, January 13, 2006 at the Chapel of Lewis Brother Funeral Home. Lewis Brother Funeral Home directing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, four brothers, eight sisters and one son-in-law.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 69 years, Louise James; two sons, Horace James of Brooklyn, NY., Frank (Doris) James Jr., of Selma, Al; two daughters, Margie Lee of Akron, Ohio and Louise (Willie Sam) Coleman Sr., of Tyler, Al; one sister, Mable Johnson of Brooklyn, NY; 13 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. He was a long time employee of Alamet (Globe) until his retirement.

James Tate

James (Shoo-Booty) Tate, 60, of Selma died Friday, January 6, 2006 at 9:00p.m at Warren Manor Nursing Home.

He is survived by his mother Roberta Cooper of Selma. A very special and dear Aunt, Willie Mae Callens of Selma; one brother, Willie “Nick” (Ester) King of Selma; two sisters, Verna (Willie) Anderson of Cleveland, Ohio and Virginia Cooper of Birmingham, Al; a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 1:00p.m at Wayman Chapel A.M.E of Summerfield. Lewis Brothers directing.

Earnest “Moon” Washington

Homecoming services for Earnest “Moon” Washington will be held Saturday, January 14, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Funeral at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel 1140 Minter Ave., Selma, Alabama 36701.

Earnest “Moon” Washington was born in Martin Station, Alabama to George Washington and Corine Robinson Ellis on April 26, 1951.

He was a graduate of Keith High School.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving sisters Murray David (William) of Boston Massachusetts and Evangelist Margaret Williams (Walter) of Orrville Alabama, aunts Rosie Odyley, Carrie Edstrin and Cadonia Robinson all of Hartford Conneticut, uncle West Robinson, Jr., of Atlanta Georgia, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many, many friends.

Maire Moorer

Ms. Maire Moorer, 75, of Minter, AL died January 8, 2006.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 12:00 noon at the New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Dales Braxton officiating. Directed by Bell Funeral Home.

Norma Jean Mahan

Norma Jean Mahan of Vestavia, passed away at her home at the age of 69 surrounded by her family and friends.

Norma will always be remembered as a person of kind words, positive thoughts and a delightful smile. She was employed in the accounting office if the City of Homewood for 22 years before her retirement.

Born August 25, 1936 in Selma, Alabama, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allan A. Mahan, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Bill Mahan and daughter-in-law, Debbie; daughter, Pam Hanlin and son-in-law, Roy and granddaughter; Lindsey; mother, Pauline Osburn; brothers, Johnny Osburn and Robert Osburn; two sisters, Donna Mason and Deborah Ruff; sister-in-law, Lanita Osburn. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2006 at 7:00p.m at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 1:00p.m at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Al.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood directing.

Mary Elizabeth Benjamin Hatcher, 60, of Selma, AL died January 7, 2006 in Reform, AL.

Services are scheduled for Saturday 14, 2006 at 2:00pm at Christian Grace Apostolic Church officiated by Bishop James Marshall. Burial in Elmwood. Directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include spouse, Mr. Willie Hatcher; five sons, Joe Cleveland, Recolo Cleveland, Napoleon Cleveland, Willie James Hatcher, Michael Hatcher; four daughters, Lelia Garaner, Bobbie Caver, Joann Cleveland, Frances Cleveland Harvey; 4 bothers, Richard Benjamin, Warren Benjamin, R.C. Benjamin, Lewis Benjamin; 4 sisters, Rose White, Erlene Rose, Mattie Benjamin and Kattie Benjamin; 27 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 4 sons-in-laws; 1 daughter-in-law; 1 bother-in-law; 1 sister-in-law; host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Lorenzo and Mary Benjamin; 1 brother, Lorenzo Benjamin, Jr and 1 sister, Lillie Bell Benjamin. Pallbearers are family and friends.

Mrs. Mattie L. Cannon, age 64, of Greensboro, Alabama passed January 9, 2006 at Hale County Hospital, Greensboro, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 1:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of

Jehovah’s Witnesses, Greensboro, Alabama. Interment will follow in Greensboro City Cemetery, Greensboro, Alabama. The remains will repose at Kingdom Hall on Saturday from 11:30am until 12:30pm. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements.

Clara Grace Parrish

Clara Grace Ansley Parish, age 75, died Thursday, January 12, 2006 in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 14, 2006 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Dr. Robert Taylor officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Parish is survived by her daughters, Kay Wilson and Carrie (Allen) Blackmon; sons, Michael L. (Wanda) Parrish and Patrick Parrish; brother, Ben C. Ansley; grandchildren, Bryant Wilson, Ellen Wilson, Kaylene Parris and Alicia Blackmon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar E. Ansley and Alice G. Bolton Ansley; brother, William Bryant Ansley; and grandsons, Cory and Clint Blackmon.

Family visitation will be Friday, January 13, 2006 from 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.

John. W. Reed III, 48 years old of Maplesville, Alabama, died Wednesday, January 11, 2006 in Carraway Medical Center.

He was born Monday, October 28, 1957 in Dallas Co., Alabama, Son of the late John W. Reed Jr and the late Juanita Smith.

He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene Reed of Maplesville, AL; Daughter, Ms. Shannon Reed of Maplesville, AL; Son, Mr. Shawn (Amy) Reed of Maplesville, AL; Grandson, Austin Reed; Granddaughter, Avery Reed; Sister, Mrs. Wren (Craig) Longcrier of Jones, AL.

Friends will be received 5-8, Thursday, January 12 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, Clanton, Alabama.

Services will be held at Maplesville Baptist Church, Friday, January 13, 2006 at 1:00pm with Rev. Ron Gatlin and Rev. Ty Parten officiating.

Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Methodist, Jones, Alabama.

Mrs. Eunice Harris, age 70, of Sweetwater, AL passed January 9, 2006 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 1:00pm at the Sweetwater high School Auditorium, Sweetwater, Alabama. Rev. Samuel Hives will officiate. Interment will follow in Harris Memorial Cemetery, Sweetwater, Alabama.

The remains will repose at the school auditorium on Saturday from 11:30am until 1:00pm.
