Norma Mahan

Norma Jean Mahan of Vestavia, passed away at her home at the age of 69 surrounded by her family and friends. Norma will always be remembered as a person of kind words, positive thoughts and a delightful smile. She was employed in the accounting office if the City of Homewood for 22 years before her retirement.

Born August 25, 1936 in Selma, Alabama, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allan A. Mahan, Jr. She is survived by her son, Bill Mahan and daughter-in-law, Debbie; daughter, Pam Hanlin and son-in-law, Roy and granddaughter; Lindsey; mother, Pauline Osburn; brothers, Johnny Osburn and Robert Osburn; two sisters, Donna Mason and Deborah Ruff; sister-in-law, Lanita Osburn.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2006 at 7:00p.m at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 1:00p.m at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Al.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood directing.

Frank James

Mr. Frank James Sr., 87, of Selma, Alabama died January 6, 2006. Mr. James was a member of Salem #1 Baptist Church in Minter, Alabama.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00p.m on Friday, January 13, 2006 at the Chapel of Lewis Brother Funeral Home. Lewis Brother Funeral Home directing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, four brothers, eight sisters and one son-in-law.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 69 years, Louise James; two sons, Horace James of Brooklyn, NY., Frank (Doris) James Jr., of Selma, Al; two daughters, Margie Lee Akron of Ohio and Louise (Willie Sam) Coleman Sr., of Tyler, Al; one sister, Mable Johnson of Brooklyn, NY; 13 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. He was a long time employee of Alamet (Globe) until his retirement.

Gwendolyn Ray

Gwendolyn D. Ray, 39, of Selma, Al died January 5, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Services are scheduled for January 13, 2006 at 12:00 noon at Ellwood Community Church with Gary Lamar Crum officiating. Burial in Live Oak Cemetery. Directed by Walker Mortuary.

Survivors include two daughters, Lakeshia Ray and Tijuana Griffin; two brothers, Karen Ray and Elaine Hutchins; a host of nephews and nieces.
