Annie Bell Simmons

Ms. Annie Bell Simmons was born on July 5, 1953 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom and Cora Bell Simmons.

She confessed to Christ at an early age and joined John the Baptist

She departed this life on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Services are scheduled for Sunday, January 8, 2006 at 1:00p.m at John the Baptist Missionary Chruch (Orrville, Al) with Rev. Curtis Williams officiating.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Jennifer R. Simmons and Quincella E. Simmons both of Selma, Al; one son, Clarence A. Simmons of Orrville, Al; four grandchildren, La’Chavious D. Simmons, Roderick L. Ellis, La’Diamon Flennory and J’Amiah R. Ellis, all of Selma, Al; five brothers, Lawrence Simmons (Regina), Walter Simmons (Gail), Roosevelt Simmons (Hettie), all of Orrville, Al., Charlie Simmons (Bridgette) of New Orleans, Louisiana., and Lorenzo Simmons (Florence) of Selma, Al; one sister, Rebecca Lawson (Isaac) of Orrville, Al; one sister-in-law, Selena Simmons of Selma, Al; one uncle, Lawrence Simmons of Birmingham, Al; God Daughters, Cathy Ebony and Allison Miles; a very special devoted friend, Mr. Sam; special friends, Clyde Ursula (Tyrone), Keith (Peanut) Merchant, Clyde Bryant, Johnetta Bryant, Chuck Taylor, Fredrick Callens and many other relatives and friends.

Malcolm Norris

Malcolm Norris, 86, of Tyler, Al died Monday, January 2, 2006, in a Montgomery hospital.

Graveside services will be held Friday, January 6, 2006 at 1:00p.m in the little Sandy Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Andrew Smith officiating and Harrison Funeral Home of Greenville directing.

Survivors include two daughters, Danita Dillow of Selma and Donna Hammond of Tyler; nine grandchildren, Stephen Dillow, Malcom Andrew Jones, Angela Armstrong, Sonya Lamb, Celena Harris, Kristy Dillow, Eric Dillow, Byron Lamb Jr., and Libby Dillow; 17 great grandchildren.

Mattie Lee Sanders

Mattie Lee Sanders, 67, of Selma, Al died December 31, 2005 at Easthaven.

Services scheduled for January 7, 2006 at 1:00p.m at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Darryl Moore. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Directed By Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include three sons, Mack Coleman, Willis Sanders and Michael Sanders; five daughters, Chandra Walker, Peggy Walker, Christine Caffey and Vivian Levins; 28 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, three sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law.

Pallbearers will be the Dixon Family.

Mary Alice Dale

Mary Alice Dale, age 78, of Oak Hill died Thursday, January 05, 2006 at a Montgomery hospital.

Born June 25, 1927, she was the daughter of the late James Boroughs Dale and Ruth Bonner Dale.

She graduated from Moore

Academy in 1945 and from Alabama College in 1949 receiving a bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught high school in Beatrice and Orrville. After retiring she became employed with the Wilcox County Department of Pensions and Securities (now the Alabama Department of Human Resources), from which she retired in 1980 as director.

She was a lifelong and devoted member of the Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, where she served as adult Sunday school superintendent and was a member of the church Choir and the Women of the Church.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret Louise (Bunnie) Dale of the home, four aunts, Sara Cole Dale Small and Clara Dale Hutchenson, both of Selma, Avis Myrick Dale of Oak Hill, and Lois Ward Bonner of Camden, an uncle, Albert Winston Dale (Doris) of Pike Road, and a host of cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Pastor Henry Lewis Smith officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Bethel A.R.P. Church or to the Helping Hand Fund, c/o Bethel A.R.P. Church, Oak Hill, Alabama 36766.

Earl Bernard Struggs

Earl Bernard Struggs, 46, of Dallas County died January 1, 2006.

Services are scheduled for January 7, 2006 at 1:00p.m at Mt. Oliver #2 Baptist Church, Sardis, Al. Bishop C.J. Nicholson officiating. Burial in Pineview Memory Gardens. Directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include his mother, Daisy Struggs; one daughter, Kristy Renee Struggs; two brothers, Jackie Struggs and Mallory Struggs; three sisters, Jackie Struggs, Sarah Thomas and Sandra Hunter; two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law; six nephews and four nieces.

Robert L. Wesley

Mr. Robert L. Wesley, 40, of Greensboro, Alabama passed January 1, 2006 at Bryan Whitfield Hospital, Demopolis, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 12:00 noon at the Rising Star Baptist Church,

Greensboro, Alabama. Rev. Freddie Robinson, Pastor. Rev, Steven Moore, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Greensboro City Cemetery, Greensboro, Alabama.

Family hour will be held Friday from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth (Mel) Farris Saloom, 78, of Enterprise, AL, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at her home in Enterprise, AL.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2006, at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany with Father Andrew Moore of St. Michael’s Orthodox Mission officiating.

Burial will follow in Enterprise City Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Saloom will be taken to the church one hour before service time.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, January 6, 2006, at Searcy Funeral Home.

Tommy Lee Jackson, 56, of Selma, Al died January 3, 2006 at his home.

Fenie Mae Abner, 86, a resident of Minter, AL died January 2, 2006.

Mrs. Ava M. Tate, age 91, of 500 Spanish Fort Blvd., formerly of Demopolis, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at Westminister Village in Spanish Fort, Alabama.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 6, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church of Demopolis, Alabama with Rev. Tommy Carr officiating.

Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her husband, L.E. Tate; her parents, Daniel Webster McDonald and

Mattie Bell Irby McDonald.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Tate (McArthur) Bassett of Morgan City, Louisiana, and Mary Ann (Robert) Sutton of Fairhope, Alabama; two sisters, Bonnie McDonald of Spanish Fort, Alabama and Thellis Lancaster of Tallulah, Louisiana; two brothers, Ed Reed McDonald of Niceville, Florida and Marlin McDonald of Quitman, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Patricia Ewing, John Kenton Bassett, Morgan Sutton, and Tate Sutton; three great grandchildren, Daniel Ewing, Kathleen Ewing, and Ethan Ewing.

Mrs. Tate was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Demopolis, Alabama, the Southside Garden Club, the Antiquarian Society, and the Republican National Committee.

Louis Boykin, Jr.

Mr. Louis Boykin, Jr., 54, of Demopolis, Alabama passed January 1, 2006 at D.C.H Medical Center, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 1:00p.m at the New Morning Star Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama. Rev. Willie Williams, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon.

Percy Johnson, 79, of Newbern, Alabama died December 31, 2005 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife Betty J. Johnson; four sons, Percy (Vicki) Johnson, Albert Johnson, James Johnson, Robert Lee Johnson; three daughters, Mildred (James) Paige, Sgt. Mary Johnson, Fannie Johnson, two step-children, Bejra Peterson Willis and Victor Peterson; 13 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; two nieces, Katie Hurt and Lillie Pedan; a special friends Annie Bell Jones Jackson and Nursing Home Friends, Annie Foster Pink and Green Coleman.

Pearlie Simpson

Pearlie Simpson, 62, of Selma died Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at local hospital.

She was a long time employee of Coastal Ind., and retired from Warren Manor Nursing Home. She was a faithful and dedicated member of New Life

Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 1:00p.m at the Mount Ararat Baptist Church with Rev. Letha Rumph officiating. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Memory Gardens. Directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Mr. Polland Simpson Sr; three sons, Johnny (Brenda) Simpson Sr., of Cincinnati, Oh., Steven Simpson and Michael Simpson of Selma; two daughters, Barbara Jordan and Lillie Simpson; six grandchildren, Lyndon Katrell Simmons, Willie Frank Jordon Jr., Steven Star Fitts, Sara Javontae Jordon, all of Selma, Pearl J. Simpson and Johnny Simpson Jr., of Cincinnati, Oh; one great grand, Nikiyah Simmons of Selma; one sister, Sarah (Roosevelt) Patterson of Cincinnati, Oh; one brother, Percy (Jackie) Hall of Cincinnati, Oh; 12 brothers and sisters of various states and a host of other friends and family.

Willie Gregory

Mr. Willie Gregory, 58, a resident of Burkville, AL, died

January 4, 2006.

Funeral Services will be announced by Bell Funeral Home at a later date.

Obie J. Englett

Obie J. Englett, 91, of Casselberry, FL., passed away at his home on Jan 2, 2006.

He has been a resident of Casselberry since 1983 when he moved from Orrville. Al. He enjoyed good health until his current bout with bladder cancer. He loved to sing and sag in his church often.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 yrs, Anniebelle, and 2 sisters, Gladys Morgan and Clarice Nichols.

He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Hamlin of Casselberry, Fl; his son Obie William and wife JoAnn of Leighton, Al; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson. He is also survived by his sisters, Velma Gowan of Pine Hill, Al; Edith Hale of Orrville, Al; and brother, Jesse Englett, Jr. of Orrville.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Lawrence Funeral Home Friday 6-8 pm.

Service will be held at the Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am Saturday. Torn Remmer will officiate. Interment will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery.
