For nearly 2 minutes in the opening period, the Selma High School Saints were in control of their smaller opponents, the Keith High School Bears. For the rest of the game, however, they were playing a game of catch-up that resulted in the first upset of the season.

Keith came out of the season opener with an 80-61 victory over 6A Selma High.

According to Pettway, the Bears lost their number one fan Anthony Sanders this week to a heinous crime and as a result, the team has dedicated their season to his memory.

Selma High jumped out to an early lead thanks to a pair of baskets and a pair of three pointers, but from there found themselves having to battle to keep up with their inspired opponents.

John Harrison was the leading scorer for KHS with 21 points. Johnathon McGuire followed with 12 points.

Michael Acoff led Selma with 13 points and eight rebounds, followed by Andre Benjamin’s eight points and nine rebounds.
