To the editor:

Public safety was endangered in Castlewood and Lansdown on Halloween night by the hundreds of children who were bussed into those areas to Trick or Treat.

There was no way a fire truck or an ambulance could have gotten through the streets of Castlewood or Lansdown that night.

Cars and trucks were parked on both sides of the street.

Other cars and trucks moved slowly down the center of the street while dropped-off children went house to house.

By actual count, more than 350 children, some looking as old as 18, went to one house in Castlewood.

Whatever happened to children Trick or Treating in their own neighborhood?

Why take a truck load of children into another neighborhood to destroy people’s lawns and shrubbery and endanger the public’s safety just to get more candy than any child should eat?

Before next Halloween, I am going to ask the mayor to use his police powers to protect the public safety by limiting access to these areas to residents and to a certain number of vehicles into the area per hour and to use the police to keep the streets clear so emergency vehicles can get through these neighborhoods.
