Last weekend, Morgan Academy’s Junior Varsity got their first taste of state tournament volleyball action, coming into the tournament as the No.5 seed. The Lady Senators taste was short lived though, losing in two matches.

The Lady Senators, battled in the second game of their opening match against Cottage Hill, only to lose 28-26. The junior varsity line-up that Nichols put on the floor at the JV State tourney consisted of mainly seventh graders and one eighth grader that were playing against teams loaded with ninth graders.

This weekend, Morgan Academy’s varsity team hopes their tournament will last a little longer.

For the first time since losing in the AISA state tournament finals in 1996, the Morgan Academy Lady Senators will make their return to the AISA’s &8216;Final 4′ State Volleyball tournament at Faulkner University.

They come into the tourney riding the crest of a 14-match win streak.

In the regional tournament on Tuesday, the Lady Senators traveled to Kingwood for the regional volleyball tournament.

The Lady Senators beat Tuscaloosa Academy in the first round, lost to Kingwood in round two, and then beat TA again to go to the &8216;Final 4′.

For Nichols, going to the tournament in her first year is an accomplishment.

According to Nichols, her Lady Senators have shown dedication and that’s been one of the keys to their success.

As a team, Morgan finished 16-2 and could head into this weekend’s state tournament as the No. 1 seed. The only losses the Lady Senators have had in regular season competition have been to Kingwood Christian.
