Breakdown: Selma High is in a must-win situation coming into tonight’s game. The Saints won back-to-back games to start the season and then fell into a four-game losing streak that was snapped last week with a win over Robert E. Lee High School on the road. The win snapped the streak and also put them in the hunt for the fourth slot in Region 4. The Jeff Davis Vols did their part to create a minor logjam in the Region 4 standings last week when they upset G.W. Carver (Montgomery). The Vols are currently in second place in the regional standings and set to host a playoff game in week one. But, a win by Selma High School would throw a wrench in the plans, giving the Saints two wins and a head-to-head win, possibly bolting them into third place ahead of Sidney Lanier.

Breakdown: The Hornets are playing for pride at this point. Last weekend their playoff hopes were dashed on homecoming by the visiting Greensboro squad. The Hornets notched back-to-back wins against Keith and Greene County, but fell in consecutive weeks following the Southside and Greensboro, eliminating them from the playoffs. Jemison, on the other hand, started the season on a hot streak, winning six straight before getting upset by Bibb County and then running into the buzzsaw that is the Demopolis Tigers. Despite a pair of losses, the Panthers are still in the second slot in the Region 4 standings and have clinched a playoff berth.

Everybody in the top slots plays each other Friday night. Reeltown travels to Maplesville while Notasulga tangles with Autaugaville and then Loachapoka has a soft week against Isabella. The four playoff teams will match-up with Region 4 which is the tandem of American Christian, John Essex, Sweet Water and either A. L. Johnson or Linden High School.

Keith High School Bears (1-7) @ Billingsley High School Bears (3-5)

Coaches: Harry Crum | James Carter

Breakdown: Keith High had a chance to set up a playoff for the fourth and final spot this week. All they needed to do was beat winless Hale County and then have Billingsley knock off Calera. Things don’t always go as planned. The Bears fell giving Hale their first win of the year and then Calera ran Billingsley off the field. So now Keith is in a position to take out some frustrations and earn win No. 2 on the year.

Morgan Academy Senators (7-1) @ Fort Dale Academy Eagles (7-1)

Coaches: Robert Gartman | Speed Sampley

Morgan Academy has already secured a spot in the playoffs and after Friday night could be the regional champions with a win over Fort Dale. However, a win by the Eagles would create a three-way tie atop the Class AAA West regional standings. Last season the Senators defeated the Eagles 14-7 at Senator Field. This season, the Eagles have only one loss, and that’s too Bessemer Academy. The Senators have a loss as well, coming in week one against Edgewood. This game not only determine the region champion, but could also determine who travels and who stays at home in the first round of the playoffs.

South Choctaw Academy Rebels (1-6) @ Meadowview Christian School Trojans (6-2)

Coaches: Charlie Taylor | Rick Jackson

Breakdown: The Rebels are just brining this season to a close. So far South Choctaw has yet to win a regional football game. They have one win on the season, a victory over West Alabama Prep School, but it was followed up by back-to-back losses to Marengo and then to Jackson Academy. The Trojans can relax a little this week, they will be at home and they will not be playing a regional opponent. The 6-2 Meadowview squad played eight regional games to start their season. A win Friday will put them on a two-game winning streak heading into the match-up with rival Morgan in two weeks

Austin Dennis – TE/WR/DB

Wilcox Academy Wildcats (4-3) @ Marengo Academy Longhorns (2-5)

Coaches: Chris Burford | Jesse Little

Wilcox Academy is currently in the No. 5 slot in the West regional standings meaning that they could be watching the playoffs from the comfort of their own homes. A win Friday night, a win Monday night against South Choctaw and then some help from the top four teams playing each other could paint a rather interesting playoff picture.

For the Warriors however, they are in week two of their playoffs. They need to win out to make it to the playoffs. After a week off, CCA had three games on their schedule, West Alabama, MMI and then a road trip to Cornerstone. They dispatched of West Alabama with relative ease. A win here, will set up the Warriors challenge to No. 3-seeded Cornerstone in week 10. This will be the Warriors first home game in a few weeks and it’s also homecoming.
