Reports from officials indicate the new YMCA facility construction is moving along smoothly.

Construction continues on the $4.5 million facility, according to reports from Y officials, with weather finally cooperating.

The construction company, Cooper Brothers Construction Company Inc., has enjoyed three weeks of dry weather – with the exception of this weekend – allowing them to make great progress, according to the company’s reports.

The new Y will have two swimming pools – complete with a winding water slide – a child care area, a fully stocked wellness center, pool tables and nearly everything families and children in the area could ever want in a community center.

Reports from the construction crew are positive.

All building slabs have been poured and the mechanical courtyard is complete, leaving the sidewalks, the “sprayground” – part of the facility’s water park – and the canopy.

The new campus has at least three buildings and company reports indicate all the buildings are closer to completion.

Work on the plumbing, along with heating and air systems, are set to begin in the coming weeks.

Building C, housing the child watch, aerobics and teen area, has a completed roof and subcontractors are busy putting in heating and air, masonry and electrical systems.

Building B – housing the wellness center and gymnasium – has 75 percent of its masonry complete. Fire sprinkler systems will be put in next week.

The roofing is virtually complete as well.

One of the biggest jobs on the project is the site work, which was hindered by bad weather in the past.

Laborers have been moving stumps and debris all over the property.

Workers hope to get the grass planted on the site before winter weather sets in. Plans are also set to meet with landscapers in the coming weeks to finalize plans. Designs should be complete soon, giving the city yet another peek into the future of the new facility.
