By Wednesday morning power had been restored to all of Dallas County and most of Central and Southeastern Alabama, according to Alabama Power officials.

Jan Ellis, Alabama Power representative, said the Selma area was hit the hardest by Hurricane Katrina in this region, with 407 residents who lost power during the storm.

A few hundred people in Camden and Marion were also in the dark Monday and Tuesday, but power should already be restored in those areas as well, Ellis said.

“A majority of our customers have power restored throughout the region,” Ellis said.

Pioneer Electric customers in this area, according to local officials, had their power restored by Monday evening.

This is not the same for the rest of the rest of the state, according to Alabama Power officials. At 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, 234,809 customers remained without power, down from a peak Monday night of 636,891. At the height of the storm, Hurricane Katrina left 636,891 Alabama Power customers without power.
