Sallie Harrison Goodwin

Sallie Harrison Goodwin, age 76, resident of Selma, died August 6, 2005, at her residence.

Services are schedules for August 13, 2005 at 12 noon, at Morning Star Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. B. T. Booker Jr.

Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery directed by J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Goodwin was born in Dallas County, November 4, 1928 to late Ira James Harrison and Mary Harrison-Howard.

She was a member of Morning Start Baptist Church and was affiliated with The Angelic Chorus #1, sponsor of the Youth Choir, was a Matron of the Church, Sunday School Teacher, co-founder and 1st president of the Radio Broadcast Ministry.

She was a graduate of Selma University High School and later Selma University receiving the AA degree.

She was a dietician with Selma City Schools, volunteered at Clark Elementary School, and was an active participant in 1st Presbyterian Church Nutrition Program.

She touched many lives as a Family Day Care provider and as a Foster Parent with the Department of Human Resources.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda E. Goodwin and Vanessa B. Goodwin, both of Selma; and one granddaughter, Ashlyn K. Goodwin; one sister, Ira H. Durgan, two sisters-in-law, Louise P. Harrison and Minnie Key, of Selma; special nieces, nephews, and great-nephews include, Ronnie, J.D., Deborah Harrison and Ira (Ricky) Austin, Sr., Kenneth Harrison, Ricky Austin, Jr., all of Selma; two goddaughters, Janice Garrett of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Carrie Dixon of Montgomery, Alabama; special friend Lizzie Green of Selma.

Active pallbearers are: Clifton Elder, Tyrone Fells, Sam Randolph, Derrick Randolph, Jessie Williams, and Curtis Wimberly.

Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Morning Star Baptist Church.

The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. until funeral hour.

Thomas C. Martin

Thomas C. Martin, 88, a resident of Selma, died August 8, 2005, at a local nursing facility.

Final arrangements will be announced later by J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.
