A 26-year-old Selma man is listed in critical condition in a Birmingham hospital after being shot multiple times in the lower torso early Tuesday.
Responding to a call of shots fired at about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday morning, Selma police found the
man lying on the side of the road on Cummings Circle in the Jim Minor housing project.
Chief Jimmy Martin said the victim, Eric Parnell of Church Street, had been shot in the lower half of his torso. He was taken by ambulance to the Vaughan Regional Emergency Room and later transported to Birmingham.
Martin said evidence was collected at the scene and investigators are in the process of interviewing witnesses.
Martin said that as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Parnell was still in critical condition.
According to police reports, an unknown type of handgun was used in the shooting.
Martin said investigators have developed persons on interest in the case, but so far no arrests have been made.
