An 18-year-old Selma woman was shot and killed late Tuesday night while playing dominoes at a local car wash/pool hall.
The victim, later identified as Akisha Moore, was shot in the back shortly before midnight in the 1400 block of Marie Foster Street, according to police reports.
Lt. David Evans, Selma police spokesperson, said the victim was taken by private vehicle to Vaughan Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Hospital Emergency Room staff reported the shooting to police, according to reports.
Evans said patrol officers were immediately dispatched to the car wash/pool hall. At the scene, they found several bullet holes in the side of the building.
Assistant District Attorney Michael Jackson said two men were allegedly fighting outside the car wash/pool hall and one of them attempted to shoot the other.
No other injuries were reported from the incident.
Evidence was collected at the scene, Evans said, and investigators are working on several leads.
So far, no arrests have been made in the shooting.
Investigators have requested that anyone with information about this shooting should contact the Selma police or Secret Witness Line at 874-2190.
This is the fifth murder to occur in Selma this year, according to police headquarters.
Jackson said he was sorry for the family of the victim.
He said when the shooter is arrested his office would do everything it could to get the defendant prosecuted.
The last shooting death occurred on April 9. Timothy Gayle was arrested and charted with the murder of Eldridge Boyd.
