Murry Austin knows how to win baseball games. His 13-and 14-year-old Family Medicine squad finished the regular season as the unbeaten City Champions. With the honor, he was also chosen to coach the 14-year-old Dixie Boys squad into the state tournament held in Selma beginning July 22. He also inherited an All-Star squad with experience.
The 2005 14-year-old All-Stars are comprised of Mark Englett and DeMario Ross from the Amsouth team. Thomas Austin, Marvin Hollman, Johnathan Hurt and Justin Ravizee from Austin’s Family Medicine squad, Braxton Fuller, Jay Gilmer, Heath Harrelson and Dylan Shelby from the FOP team, Darius Thigpen from PACE, Randal Hamilton from Pilcher-McBryde and Monta Lanier from Talton Communications.
In that two week span, the All-Stars have already played three games &045; a scrimmage against the 13-year-old squad and then games against the North Chilton All-Stars and against the Prattville All-Stars. Both of them were won by Selma.
Selma beat North Chilton 6-0 fueled by a three-run homer from Austin and a double by Harrellson. The squad then turned around and beat Prattville 7-4.
