Last Tuesday, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Dr. William C. Deavor, a long time obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN) in this community, delivered his last baby.

Deavor said that he will continue to do gynecology and gynecologic surgery. He will also remain Vaughan Regional Medical Center’s (VRMC) Chief of Staff.

Although his colleagues accept his need to scale back his practice, they will miss his presence at VRMC.

Moorer, who worked with Deavor for 22 years, said that he is a very mild-mannered and caring doctor who treats all of his patients like family.

Fellow gynecologist Dr. Diedre Russell agreed.

Deavor, who is Board Certified, has accomplished much during his career. He served as an advisor for the March of Dimes for 20 years, served on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Health Network and served on the State of Alabama Advisory Council for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

Although ready for a change of pace, Deavor said that he has mixed emotions about his decision.

Deavor said that he will use his new, predictable lifestyle to pursue his love of golfing, hunting, fishing and above all – spending time with his grandchildren.
