Approximately 400 people gathered at Bienville Park Monday to help celebrate The Selma Times-Journal’s Extreme Makeover.

While radio personalities from Dixie 100 and Laser 101 broadcasted live, The Times-Journal’s staff gave away free newspapers, T-shirts, cups, pens and balloons and signed up people for the hourly cash prize drawings.

In addition, free barbecue sandwiches and pizza &045; from Noodies BBQ and Domino’s Pizza &045; was provided.

Although most enjoyed the free food and gifts, many were just as pleased with the outcome of the newly designed newspaper.

Clara and her husband P.B. said that they have subscribed to the Times-Journal for over 50 years. The couple said that at one time, they ended their subscription to the Times-Journal and began getting another paper.

Lindsey said that the staff received all types of comments about the paper’s redesign.

The reaction was not unanimous.
