Selma High’s spring football season came to a smashmouth ending Friday night when the Saints traveled to Tuskeegee to be a part of Booker T. Washington’s Spring football jamboree. The event included Selma High, Elmore County, the host Eagles and the Sidney-Lanier Poets.
When all was said and done, the Saints had notched two victories against two opponents.
Their first foe, was the host Eagles. At the end of the regulation half that each team was allotted to play, Selma’s Allen Mitchell came down with a pass in the end zone from Cajun Pritchett.
The Saints took the field and pushed ahead to a 7-0 lead, thank to a catch in the end zone by Alan Williams. Cajun Pritchett made the toss into the end zone. The point after split the uprights and pushed the Saints in front 7-0.
From there, the Saints had the opportunity to share the field with Elmore County High School.
Selma used a five-yard blast into the end zone by Mike Miller and then a 43-yard pass from Pritchett to Williams on a post route for the score. The point after put the Saints on top, despite the Panthers having scored a touchdown, 14-7.
With the wins at the spring jamboree, Lowe is pleased at the success his squad has had, but realizes that they still need work.
Lowe will give his squad the next two weeks off before making them report back for summer workouts and three-a-day practices.
