Memorial Services for Mrs. Janet U. Okoye, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 309 Washington Street.

Mrs. Janet Okoye is the mother of Dr. C. N. Okoye. She died December 14, 2004, in Nigeria.

Charles Edward Tate

Charles Edward Tate was born on October 11, 1954 in Selma, Alabama to Mary Gamble Tate and the late Edward Robins.

Charles confessed Christ at an early age and joined Morning Star Baptist Church. He later joined Providence Baptist Church.

On Tuesday, May 10, 2005, he peacefully went home to be with the Lord.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1416 Selma Avenue, Selma, with the Rev. Joshua Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Ellwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

He leaves to cherish fond memories: his loving mother Mary G. Tate; a devoted finance’ Loretta Simpson; six children Christinia David (Atlanta), Tamara Tate, Aisha Tate, Charles “Lil Charles” Tate, Charles “Hank” Tate, and Janeen Tate (all of Chicago); three sisters Jackie (Tommy) Smith, Cheryl Tate Williams, Cora (Fred) Weeks (Maryland); one brother Jeff (Audrey) Bennett (Marietta); six nieces, six nephews, fourteen grandchildren; two great aunts Margaret Allen and Della Lewis (Mobile); one great uncle Joseph Gamble (Mobile); two uncles Sidney and Terry Gamble (Mobile); two aunts Doretha Gamble (Mobile) and Angeline James (Atlanta); and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother Nathaniel Tate.

Lettie M. Grayson

Lettie M. Grayson, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 16, 2005, at Morning Star Baptist Church.

Mrs. Grayson was born in Dallas County, Alabama on July 21, 1918 to Mary and Percy Morton. She was the third of six children born to this union.

Mrs. Grayson was baptized at an early age and joined Morning Star Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. I. C. Acoff, where she faithfully served in several auxiliaries until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Ford, Ennis Morton and Percy Morton, Jr.; and one sister, Helen Brackin.

She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Mrs. Edith Fergerson, and a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great -grand nieces and nephews.

John Woods Sr.

Rev. John Woods Sr., 86, of Jones, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005, at St. Matthews Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Woods; four sons, John, Edmund, David and Clifton; seven daughters, Johnnie Harrell, Willie Mae, Mary Bailey Bertha Lee, Christine Pattern, Martha Pattern and Gertrude Dennis; one sister, Louisiana Jenkins; 33 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; six sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lulla M. Lyons

Lulla M. Lyons, 78, of Selma, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at a local nursing home.

Services were held at 12 noon Thursday, May 12, 2005, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral with the Rev. Price officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Jimmie Dorsey; one daughter, Mary Lyons; one brother, Matt Lyons; two grandchildren; one son-in-law; and one daughter-in-law.

Sharon “Shari” Harris Gayle

Sharon “Shari” Harris Gayle, age 62, of Selma died Wednesday May 11, 2005, at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church at 2:00 P.M. Sunday May 15, 2005, officiated by Rev. James K. Polk Van Zandt and Rev. Joe Knight directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gayle is survived by her husband, Tommy G. Gayle, III of Selma; children, John Harris of Springfield, MA, Kimberly (John) Murray of Berrien Springs, IL, Todd (Carrie) Harris of Denmark, ME, Thomas Gill Gayle, IV of Hollywood, CA, Catherine (Ralph) Stevens of Burbank, CA, Mary Margaret Taylor of Huntsville, AL; sister, Tobe (Sam) Witt of Kingsport, TN; brothers, Thomas E. (Charlotte) Alexander, Jr. of Brandon, MS, Paul Scott (Lorraine) Alexander of Selma, Mark Alexander of Brandon, MS; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pallbearers will be family members.

Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of Reliable Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Pontiac, GMC.

Jimmie Sue Harper

Jimmie Sue Harper, 93, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at a local nursing home.

Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at East Tallassee First Baptist Church with Rev. David Gill officiating.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha Sue Overstreet (Donald C.) of Selma; three grandchildren, Melissa Blohm (John) of Little Rock, Ark., Jennifer Styslinger (Mark) of Birmingham, AL, and Lydia Jackson (Hunter) of Selma, AL; six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to East Tallassee First Baptist Church.

Julie Goodwin Lockart

Julie Goodwin Lockart, 56, formally of Selma, died Tues. May 10, 2005, in Gulf Shores AL.

A memorial service will be held at Wolf Bayview Funeral Home, Foley, AL at 11:00 Sat. May 14, 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Estelle Goodwin.

Survivors include her sister, Glenda Goodwin Greene (Lee); nephews, Matt Greene (Kim), Lee Greene Jr. (Lisa), great-nephews, Matthew and Wilson Greene, all of Hartselle, AL. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or ASTCA.

Josiah Toodle

Josiah Toodle, 86, of Marion Jct., AL died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at a local nursing home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.
