The Morgan Academy Senators came within one run of defending their house against the visiting Glenwood Gators, falling 7-6.

The Gators turned two Senator errors into base runners and used a late inning single to push the go-ahead and winning runs across the plate to advance to the winner’s final of the AISA Final Four Tournament played at Bloch Park in Selma.

The Senators opened the game with a rally but after the first full inning, found themselves on the low end of the score, 2-0.

They answered with a run in the top of the second inning by Josh McAteer. The Gators quickly turned the one-run margin into a three run lead with a two-run blast over the rightfield fence, bringing the tally to 4-1.

With two men on, Reid Tolar exploded on a fastball and deposited directly behind the "Hitter’s Eye" in deep centerfield.

That three run blast shifted the momentum in the favor of the Senators. They weren’t done there, though.

Two batters later, McAteer laced a single through the left side of the infield, scoring the runner on second and pushing the Sens into their first and only lead of the game, 5-4.

McAteer recorded another RBI in the top of the seventh inning, scoring a runner from second and expanding the lead to 6-4.

The Gators, however battled back in the bottom of the final inning.

Jeremy Smith, Sens pitcher, gave up a second homer in the top of the seventh, cutting the lead to a run, 6-5.

Two errors later, the Gators were on the basepaths.

With one swing of the bat, it was over. As a linere was roped to right-center, splitting the defenders and allowing the go-ahead and winning runs to score and sending the Senators to the Consolation bracket to face No. 3 seeded Bessemer Academy (story on page 8A).
