They eliminated the baseball team from regional play last week with a two game sweep and on Saturday, the Lady Cougars knocked the highly seeded Lady Trojans out of the tournament completely on the first day.

Against Patrician, in the second round of the winner’s bracket, Lady Trojans Coach Ric Raines knew he was going to have his hands full trying to slow down the balanced offense of the Lady Saints.

Patrician lived up to the billing and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

Patrician put Kylie Louis on base early with a single and then she scored on an error by Brandy Moore at second.

However, the one miscue by the Lady Trojans was made up with two quick outs.

Two batters later, the Lady Saints were back on the bases and were driven in when Jess Norton ripped a triple, pushing them ahead 3-0.

For Meadowview, Elyse McIntyre and Micah Lolley reached base could never get across the plate as the inning ended on a Brandy Moore strikeout.

In the third inning, the Lady Trojans began to chip away at the Lady Saints’ lead. Kasey Burton scored to cut the lead to two runs. That momentum quickly shifted in the next inning when the wheels fell off the Lady Trojans wagon as Patrician scattered four runs over seven hits. The Lady Saints sent 13 batters to face Lady Trojans pitcher Lolley in the fourth inning of the game.

Meadowview answered the four-runs, with a pair in the fourth inning.

Ashton Smith was ushered down to first after being plunked on the helmet and then advanced to second when Carol Anne McIntyre was plunked in the arm by the pitcher. Older sister Haley McIntyre ripped a single to center, sending both runners home and then was advanced to third on a single from Burton. A groundout, however, ended the rally and the inning. Neither team was able to push another run across the plate. The 7-3 loss sent Meadowview to the Consolation bracket to face Escambia Academy.

When the Lady Trojans and Lady Cougars took the field, it was their third game of the day.

Both teams tried to rally through the first two innings, neither team however could garner and advantage. Until the bottom of the third inning,

Escambia took advantage of four throwing errors by Meadowview and pushed six runs across the plate and jumped out to a six-run lead.

The Lady Trojans never rebounded.

Escambia tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and jumped up 7-0.

Meadowview tacked on a run in the top of the seventh inning.

Maegan Lambert reached base on a walk and then was brought home when Smith turned on a pitch and sent it in the opposite direction to right field. Haley McIntyre ripped a single, her only hit of the game to push Smith into scoring position, but a flyout to second base ended the game and the season of the Lady Trojans.

The Lady Trojans will return a majority of the girls on their team but will lose Lolley, Haley McIntyre, Ashton Smith and Maegan Lambert.
