The first time the Monroe Academy Vols traveled to Morgan Academy, Mother Nature ended the game prematurely.

Wednesday afternoon, however, the game had to have a winner. And it did.

Morgan Academy notched a 4-2 victory over their opponents to earn a spot in the AISA regional baseball tournament next week. The winner of the regional game will advance to the state tournament.

Wednesday’s game picked up where the first one left off, with no outs the Senators up 1-0 and Monroe’s Bonner Williams at first base.

That’s as close as he got to the plate for the rest of the game.

Monroe tacked on three more runs through the game with one coming in the bottom of the fourth.

Reed Tolar reached on an error and was able to make his way around the bases thanks to a single from Clint Merloni.

Junior Josh McAteer ripped a single that allowed Tolar to score and put the Senators up 2-0.

The home team tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the score to 4-0.

Catcher Ben Calloway reached on an error and Allen Pitts was sent in to run. Brett Averett singled to score the runner.

Tolar tacked on another base hit and put runners on first and third. A throwing error when Tolar attempted to steal second sent the ball into the outfield and allowed Averett to score from third and put MA up 4-0.

Monroe tried to make a comeback in the top of the seventh and begin to get hits off pitcher Zach Huey, but a pitching change sent Jeremy Smith to the hill and the next three Volunteer batters back to the dugout.

The Senators will play the winner of Mobile Christian and Faith in the regional next week.
