Paul Louis Durry, Sr.

Paul Louis Durry, Sr., 78, of Selma, Alabama, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at his home.

Services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Carroll Plourde officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Walker Mortuary directing.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie Suttle Durry of Selma Alabama; two sons, Paul Louis Durry, Jr. of Lawton, Oklahoma and Anthony Wayne Durry of Spanaway, Washington; one daughter, Paula F. Durry-Patton of Selma, Alabama; two sisters, Mary Durry of Selma, Alabama and Martha Moore of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother-in-law, Adolph J. (Elaine) Suttle of Newark, New Jersey; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nephews and nieces; other relatives uncle, James Durry of Selma, Ala.; and an aunt, Ethel Allen of Selma, Ala.; and aunt-in-law, Belzora Watters of Selma.

Active pallbearers will be Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Durry was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy for two years. He was employed at Craig Air Force Base, from 1952-1978 in the Civil Engineering shop specializing in air conditioning and refrigeration. He was a member of St. Elizabeth and Queen of Peace Catholic Churches and served as an usher as well. He was married to Bessie Suttle Durry for 52 years.

Ralph Miller Hartis

Ralph Miller Hartis, 80, of Martin, Georgia, died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Stephens County Hospital.

A son of the late Clingman and Audrey Stilwell Hartis, he was born April 10, 1925, in Union County, N.C., having lived in Charlotte, N.C., and Selma, Ala., for a number of years, in Atlanta for a number of years and in Martin for the past 20 years. He was retired from Southern Railroad where he worked as a special agent, now called the Railroad Police, after 37 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4346 of Toccoa. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Toccoa where he was on the administrative board and a member of the Rhoades Sunday Class and The Crusaders. He also was the church bus driver for several years and was a member of the National Sheriffs Association.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 20, at the First

United Methodist Church. The Revs. Charles Ritter and Jack Lamb officiated. Entombment was in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Virgil Megill in charge of graveside services and with the V.F.W. Post 4346 of Toccoa performing military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Doster Hartis of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph Michael and Debbie Hartis of Jacksonville, N.C., and David Hugh and Donna Hartis of McDonough; grandchildren, Kelley Hartis Batchelor and husband, Isaac Batchelor of Jacksonville, N.C., and Daniel Hartis and Matthew Hartis both of McDonough; one great-grandson, Logan Hartis Batchelor, and a brother, Neal Hartis of Matthews, N.C.

Pallbearers were Daniel Hartis, Matthew Hartis, Anthony Hartis, Isaac Batchelor, Bill Keaton, and Jack Smith.

Honorary escort was comprised of members of the Rhoades Sunday School Class and former co-workers at Southern Railroad.

Manley Gamble Jr., 66, of Selma, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at his home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2005, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gamble Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
