The battlefield is prepped and ready. All they need now is a war.

Organizers of the Battle of Selma, with help from city and county workers, spent the past few days cleaning up Riverside Park for this weekend’s big event.

“Everything is done, It’s ready to go,” event organizer Mike Reynolds said. “We’re putting the finishing touches on it now.”

Reynolds said workers have been busy doing everything from setting up the campsites for reenactors to clearing the grounds for visitors.

“You name it, we’ve done it,” Reynolds said.

By late Wednesday afternoon, many of the reenactors participating in the school group tours had already arrived.

The Battle of Selma activities begins at 9 a.m. today with the school tours. The school tours will continue on Friday.

The “initial conflict” battle will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. On Saturday evening there will be a Military Ball held at Sturdivant Hall.

“The folks at Sturdivant Hall have been great in setting up the ball for us,” Reynolds said.

The 18th Reenactment of the Battle of Selma will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
