Nearly 24 hours after an attendant at the Trailways Bus Depot was injured during a robbery, Selma Police had their suspect in custody.
Corey Dewayne Carter, 27, was arrested around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday after he was found in a local hotel.
Selma Police spokesperson Lt. David Evans said during the arrest investigators found some cash allegedly taken from the bus station and a small amount of marijuana.
Carter has been charged with a misdemeanor drug charge and first-degree robbery.
Police believe Carter entered the bus station at 434 Broad Street sometime around 8 a.m. on Tuesday and robbed a station attendant at knifepoint.
The two got into a fight when the suspect allegedly attempted to stab the attendant, according to police reports.
Evans said the attendant received only minor injuries during the fight, but there was a significant amount of blood evidence found at the scene, leading police to believe Carter may have also been injured during the fight.
After the robbery and fight, the suspect fled the scene on foot.
“All of our officers did a superb job, but Detective Al Blackmon was the one who gathered the information necessary to lead us to the suspect,” Evans said.
Evans said it is believed the robbery was drug related.
“Officers managed to recover some of the money from the robbery,” Evans said.
Carter is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail.
