Storms and flooding have caused the cancellation of one of Selma’s more popular rites of spring.
Opening ceremonies for the Recreational Department’s softball and baseball programs have been cancelled due to the weather and condition of the fields.
“I can’t remember the last time we had to cancel,” Tracey Williams of the Rec. Department said.
The league still plans to open play as scheduled with softball starting Friday and baseball Saturday.
“As long as it doesn’t rain on Friday, we’ll play,” Williams said.
As always, there has been a tremendous response from Selma and Dallas County to the league.
There are 40 girls softball teams this season and 71 baseball, including All-Stars.
