Gladys Suther Melton

Gladys Suther Melton, 85, A lifelong resident of Selma, died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at the Park Place nursing home.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Elkdale Baptist Church with the Rev. Al Finch officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2005.

Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her son Gary Marvin Melton, her parents Mack and Leila Suther, her sisters Bernice Jack and Margarette Nichols.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years Marvin Melton; four daughter, Ann (Bill) Bradley of Augusta, GA, Barbara (Roy) Moore of Tyler, AL, Jane (Chris) Henderson of Selma, and Julie (Ben) Simmons of Selma; daughter-in-law Susan McDonald; Grandchildren, Pam (Danny) Rhea, Brian (Glenda) Bradley, Coy (Toni) Moore, Heather (Billy) Free, Ed Moore, Teresa Crowe, Kyle Melton, Dana Melton, Kendall Simmons, Kelly Simmons, and Kevin Simmons; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Melton; Several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and faithful servant, Josephine Craig.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Melton grandsons.

The family suggests donations be made to Elkdale Endowment Fund or your favorite charity.

John Richard (J.R.) McKinney Jr.

John Richard (J.R.) McKinney Jr., 86, of Maplesville, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, in Selma.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Rasberry officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery, Stanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a brother, Bob Ed McKinney of Plantersville; and sister, Allene Lawley of Maplesville, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Richard McKinney Sr. and mother, Mary Mintral Harrison McKinney.

Friends will be received at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, Clanton, Alabama, from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2005.

Mr. McKinney was born on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1919 in Chilton County, Alabama to the late Mr. and Mrs. McKinney.

John “Dick” Richard Williams

John “Dick” Richard Williams, age 65, of Selma, died Saturday March 19, 2005, at a Birmingham hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday March 23, 2005, in the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Mike Wyatt.

Mr. Williams is survived by his children, Robert Williams of Montgomery, Richard (Jenny) Williams of Jacksonville, FL, and Mark (Trish) Williams of Selma; grandchildren, Allen, Stephen, Matthew, and Stephanie Williams, Trent Jordan and Nathan Mathis; sisters, Barbara (Tom) Ingram and Norma Boyd, both of Sylacauga; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Williams, Matthew Williams, Trent Jordan, Joshua Roberson, Tommy Ingram and Byron Saffold.

The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday.

William Presley Gallagher

William Presley Gallagher, 79, born July 5, 1925, in Selma, AL was called home by the Lord on March 11, 2005, following a brief illness.

Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggye; two sons, Flynt Gallagher and his wife Sherry and Michael Gallagher; two grandsons, Kyler and Kendall; one granddaughter, Kelsey; sisters, Gloria Martin

and her husband John of New Orleans, La., and Angela Persons and husband Lewis of Tallahassee; a host family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. William (Bertie) Gallagher of Selma.

Pres, as he was affectionately known, was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a 55-year resident of the Pensacola and Gulf Breeze area. He graduated from Florida State University after attending Marion Military Institute and the University of Alabama. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, a charter member of the Gulf Breeze Optimist Club and a founding partner of Creel, Bryan and Gallagher CPA firm in Pensacola.

He was a man who had a love for fishing and woodworking. His favorite hobby, however, was helping people. Pres was a source of joy to all he came in contact with and he never met a stranger. He was a very generous spirit who loved to help others in need, wherever he found them. A close friend was quoted saying, “I never met a man loved by so many.” Pres will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Gulf Breeze.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to his favorite local charities; Loaves and Fishes, Manor FoodBank, Caring and Sharing and Covenant Hospice.

Edward Davis

Edward Davis, 62, a resident of Letohatchee, AL died Friday, March 18, 2005.

Funeral Services was held Sunday, March 20, 2005, at 2:30 p.m. at the Bell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Hayneville with Bell Funeral Home Directing.

Shawanda Brown

Shawanda Brown, 20, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died Sunday, March 20, 2005.

Funeral services and survivors will be announced later by Bell Funeral Home.
