A 27-year-old Selma man was arrested last week on burglary and drug charges for his alleged involvement in home burglaries that occurred throughout the city.

Derek Taylor was taken into custody on Thursday, Feb. 17 and faces two counts of third-degree burglary and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

“Detectives are currently looking into the possibility of that Mr. Taylor may have been involved in other crimes,” said Lt. David Evans, Selma Police public information officer.

During the arrest, Evans said, police found what they believed to be cocaine in Taylor’s possession.

Officers were also able to recover some of the stolen property.

“The investigation is still ongoing and further charges could result from this investigation,” Evans said.

Taylor was taken to the Dallas County Jail under at $15,000 bond.

Interim Police Chief Jimmy Martin said he commended Detectives Sandra Washburn and Tommy Buford for leading the investigation and the resulting arrest in this case.
