The victory also allowed Selma coach Anthony Harris to come away with a win with former Selma coach A.A. Sewell in attendance.

“He is one of my inspirations in life,” Harris said, “he and our fans.

“We played Selma ball tonight,” Harris added. “Winning is what counts now.”

The Lady Saints powered out to an 11-1 lead against Smiths Station. Selma senior point guard Ashley Green scored 15 points, grabbed four rebounds and constantly hounded the Smiths Station guards throughout the first half, producing turnovers for the Lady Saints.

In the second period, sophomore Erica Lumpkin scored two baskets in the paint and knocked down a three-pointer as Selma built a 32-17 halftime lead.

Lumpkin finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Junior Shemeka Simpson handed out three assists to Green to open the third period. Green capitalized with a trio of baskets off Simpson’s assists.

Despite Selma’s two losses to Lanier this season, Harris was confident in his team’s chances for a victory the third time around.

“We feel good about our win,” Harris said, “and we look forward to Lanier.”
