The mighty Lady Saints’ (21-4, 8-2 area) sophomore Erica Lumpkin posted her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Saints to a 54-f49 victory over West End High School Saturday night.
The Lady Lions came out roaring, as they jumped out to a 14-6 first quarter lead. Senior Santana Seay (14 points, 5 assists) scored two back to back baskets and the Lady Saints came within three at halftime.
At the 5:33 mark, Lumpkin knotted the game at 24-24, but the Lady Lions’ Bridgitt Barnfield (11 points) hit a trey and put West End back on top. Christine Abrams (15 points) scored two baskets and West End went up by five. Ashley Green (12 points, four rebounds) hit a trey and Seay scored on a layup. Green put Selma up by five, 49-44, at the 2:00 mark. Jazmyne Yates (two points) scored with 22.6 left and the Saints posted the victory.
The Lady Saints are 52-6 under Coach Anthony Harris and 20-0 at home.
“Due to a slow start, sloppy ball handling and a week off, we came out rusty,” Harris said. “But Lumpkin, Green and Seay stepped it up in the second quarter.”
