Claude Hildreth

Claude Hildreth, 77, of Selma, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 7, at Temple Gate Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Willie Bussey officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Pearl Hildreth; four sons; five daughters; two brothers; five sisters; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four sons-in-law.

Honorary pallbearers are Honor Guard (military).

Mr. Hildreth was a member of Temple Gate Seventh Day Adventist Church. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a free-lance carpenter, and a graduate of Selma University.

Nadya Casey Mathiews

Nadya Casey Mathiews, 71, of Selma died Thursday, February 3, 2005 at her home. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2005 at Carlowville Baptist Church with Dr. George Sedberry officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Carlowville Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Raymond L. Mathiews, Sr. of Selma; one son, Raymond L. Mathiews, Jr. (Christy) of Selma; three daughters, Beverly Mathiews Waters (Tommy) of Gainesville, FL; Nancy Mathiews Miller (Scott) of Montgomery, AL; Linda Mathiews of Gainesville, FL; eight grandchildren, Derek Waters, Amy Miller, Casey Miller, Christy Waters, Haley Mathiews, Carly Waters, Peyton Mathiews, and Mallory Mathiews; four brothers, William L. Casey (Patricia) of Carlowville, Joseph W. Casey (Barbara) of Selma, Lamar Casey (Grace) of Gordonsville, AL, Jerry H. Casey (Peggy) of Montgomery, AL; one sister, Lois Casey Harris (Robert) of Tallassee, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mathiews was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest Lamar Casey and Mamie Lois Jackson Casey; and her sister, Ernestine Casey Garrett.

Pallbearers will be Charles Casey, Glenn Garrett, Bill Casey, Jack Callen, Bobby Luckie, and John Wayne Bradford. Family visitation will be Saturday, February 5, 2005 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Ruth Veach

Ruth Veach, 85, died Friday, February 4, 2005.

Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 5, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Burial followed in Southern Heritage Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Jack; daughter, Jackie Dillard; grandson, Eric Nelson; brother, Buddy Davis (Marquerite); and four nieces and nephews.

Memorial may be made to the St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

Mrs. Veach worked as an LPN at the Selma Baptist Hospital for 20 years. She attended Lakeside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joy Class. Ruth and her husband Jack recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She was devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Caroline Norton Williams

Caroline Norton Williams, 75, passed away in Birmingham on February 4, 2005 after an extended illness.

She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Norton of Birmingham, and was preceded in death by her brother, Elbert M. Norton.

She was a graduate of the Conservatory of Birmingham Southern College where she received a B.A. degree in Piano.

She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority.

After teaching piano for a number of years, she became the organist at Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church of Selma, Alabama, where she resided.

She is survived by one son, Truman Williams, Jr. of Birmingham, his wife Angela Williams and their children Jeffery, Christal, Joey, and Rebekah, her sister-in-law Emily Lindsay Norton (Mrs. Elbert) of Marietta, GA, a nephew Elbert Norton of Marietta and a niece, Ellie Norton Oakley and her children Lindsay, Catherine, and Miles of Fairfax, VA, cousins Mr. and Mrs. Wade Norton and Ms Frances Norton of Atlanta, Ms. Wilma Norton and James Norton and Phillip Norton of Birmingham, Ms. Martha Norton Hester of Montgomery, Mrs. Mary Ann Norton Black of Jackson’s Gap, Alabama, and other cousins.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Johns-Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel.

Dr. Cecil Williamson of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church will conduct the service on Monday, February 7 at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Elbert Norton of Marietta, GA, Ron Fulton of Selma, AL, George Thames of Selma, AL, Justin Thames of Selma, AL, Scott Morton of Mobile, AL, and Donny Wilson of Warrior, AL.

Joseph Henry Jones

Funeral; services for Mr. Joseph Henry Jones, age 57, of route 2 Uniontown, AL will be 2 p.m. Monday Feb. 7, 2005 at the Uniontown Church of God in the Village Uniontown, Al.

Revs Ronnie Blakenship and Billy Ray will officiate.

Visitation for Mr. Jones will be Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Chapel from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Mr. Jones died Friday, February 4, 2005 at DCH Reg. Med. Center in Tuscaloosa,

AL. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery, Linden, AL.

Survivors include: One daughter: Jessica Jones of Selma, Al. Three sons: Joseph Daren Jones, Shannon Jones and his wife Jennifer all of Centreville, AL, Eric Jones and his wife Tina of Pondville, AL. Four sisters: Carolyn Westbrook of Linden, AL., Leenette Edwards and her husband Douglas of Gallion, AL., Joyce Jones of Phenix City, AL., Terri Yelverton and her husband Melvin of Demopolis, AL. Three brothers: George Jones and his wife Phyllis of Dublin, Ga., R.J. Jones of Bayou Le Batre, AL., and Jimmy Jones of Gallion, AL. Special Friend: Edith Elam of Gallion, AL. Nine grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Jones and Ruby Pennington Jones and a sister, Mattie Sue Pope.

Mr. Jones was a native of Moundville and a resident of Uniontown.

A retired electrician, he was a member of the Church of Christ.

Edwin Robinson Glass Young

Funeral services for Mr. Edwin Robinson Glass Young, age 58 of Uniontown, Al., will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Uniontown, AL. Father Bryan Hatchett and George Mckee will officiate.

Mr. Young died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at his residence.

The family will received friend Saturday, Feb.5, 2005 at Kidd-Robbins Funereal Chapel from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his mother Lyle Davidson Glass young and his father Willard Pierce Young.

Survivors include: One sister: Adele Sommers and her husband Clyde of Panama City, Fla.

One brother: Willard Pierce Young, Jr. and his wife Veronica Fulton of North Hollywood, CA. One aunt: Emma Glass Beasley of Uniontown, AL. Three cousins: Ellis Beasley Long of Hampton, Va., Mary Leila Schaeffer of Uniontown, AL., and Kurt A. Schaeffer of Houston, Tx.

Pallbearers will be T.R. Long IV, Robert Bamberg, Archie Sims, Williams Rankin, Jim Rankin and Tommy Allison.

Honorary pallbearers will be: William Poellnitz and Richard Byrd.

Mr. Young was born in Boston, Mass. on Sept.3, 1946. A resident of Uniontown, AL., a graduate of the University of Alabama Phi Delta Theta, a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church.
