Even though he just moved into his new office last week, Woody Jones, Youth Minister at Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church, has been busy.
Jones, with the help of fellow Youth Minister Nolan Baxter, recently organized Selma’s inaugural Christian Rock Concert.
“We want to reach out to all kids in Selma,” Jones said. “People are always saying that kids don’t have Christian things to do in a good environment, so we hope to provide that.”
The concert will be held on Sunday, Jan. 30 at the Old Armory.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the concert will start at 8 p.m. Concession booths will be available.
According to Jones, who wants to “keep kids stable on their walk with the Lord”, the concert will allow kids to get together in a holy environment.
Sanctus Real, a Christian rock group from Toledo, Ohio whose latest CD is entitled “Fight The Tide,” will be the headlining band.
In 2003 the band was voted Best New Artist by readers of Christian Music Today
and received two Dove Award nominations by the Gospel Music Association. Hawk Nelson, a Canadian Christian rock group whose debut CD “Letters to the President” was released in 2004, will be the opening act.
“Although it was organized by our church, we want to include all area churches in this deal. We don’t want it to be considered a Christ the King concert,” Jones said.
Tickets to the concert cost $10 and can be bought in advance or at the door the night of the concert.
